I'm a little confused about this but apparently former Eagle Brandon Mayweather, who arguably, was the most talented football player to come out of Ashley County in at least the last 10 years, has rejoined the UAM football team.
In a release sent to the media this afternoon (Tuesday) about the transfer of a D-I defensive end to UAM, Mayweather is mentioned in one line by head coach Gwaine Matthews when he says that that two will make a good tandem.
I'm confused because it was my understanding that Mayweather, who played football for the Boll Weevils early in the 2004 season before being injured, had been kicked off of the squad when Matthews arrived. I also thought that Mayweather was a senior this year and had no more eligibility left; it could be that as a football walk-on he has yet to exhaust his eligibility.
I'm hoping to find out more about this soon but it seems as though, at the very least, Mayweather must have gone through spring practices with the Weevils.
