Well, the hamburg game is not even a conference game this year. The only reason it is important to ppl is b/c of the rivalry thing that goes way back. I think if the eagles win it will boost moral, which is a good thing. Other than a confidence builder and fun for those who actually participate in the game it is not really one of the top games on the schedule. Congratulations, that post just proved what Eddie , Heath , and i have been saying. SCHOOL SPIRIT IS TERRIBLE!!! Except for a couple years in the 90's Hamburg has always been a non conference game. It's bragging rights for the county for the next 12 months. I cannot believe it means nothing to you. Very sad in my opinion. Hamburg you are still our most bitter rival in the eyes of alumni!

She proved your point about the school spirit, but also mine about how the game just isn't as big of a deal to the CHS students as it once was. I remember when I was little, and the Crossett/Hamburg game was the biggest game of the season. But when I got to the high school, it just didn't seem to mean that much. I always looked forward to the Stuttgart game more than the Hamburg game.

Isn't Hamburg supposed to be bumped up to our class next year or something? If they are, they will be in our conference, and therefore be a more important game. Doesn't really matter to me, it's the most important to me anyway. Nobody from Hamburg will let it go if we lose to them. We (I, anyway) don't really see many people from the other schools we play, but I see Hamburg...ians..or something all the time. But that's basically all a repeat of what I said earlier lol

That is unless the multiplier is thrown out in the Ark Baptist lawsuit. Hamburg and Crossett will probably never be in the same class again. If anything, both may swap classes in the 2008 season. All this may be moot if the state board of Education does what they will eventually do and make only one school district for the whole county. I see a new school built somewhere between Crossett and Hamburg, Ashley County High. It's coming. I just have that feeling. Our destiny as a school district is in the hands of legislators in LR and Washington, DC. I absolutely hate it too.

All Joy was saying was that the Hamburg game isn't as important as the seven conference games--and she's right. You can beat the snot out of Hamburg but miss out on the playoffs by one game, and if you're smart, you'd trade that Hamburg win over that conference loss that kept you out of the postseason.
You can't live and die by that Hamburg-Crossett game. It really should be secondary (at best) in the grand scheme of things. And I think the players these days are smart enough to know that.
I actually heard some people from Hamburg's talking about this in the preseason. Some people were asking about playing Crossett and the response was "We're a lot more concerned with Warren and Dollarway." As it should be.
Oh, and I can't see that there ever will be just one school in Ashley County. One school district, maybe. That would mean centralized administrative offices and staffs, and one board, but two separate high schools and several different elementary schools. Too much geographic separation to have only one school in the whole county.
It's fun to think about, though...I had a discussion earlier tonight with a guy about it, how good the football team would be with a combined school. With the right coach, fergiddabowdit! That's a state title every other year at the 6A level, probably in football AND basketball.

Delta was the last remaining high school other than Bastrop and it closed last year. Morehouse Parish is as big as Ashley County. It's also a mistake to think rational in this situation. Remember, we're dealing with state and federal legislators here. They often do things with little or know rational thinking. Present local reps. excluded, of course. The courts are also involved. If they get it right, it'll be a first.

I want to hear some opinions from the students at CHS.... Do you as a student feel that this is a big game for the Eagles? Or do you just feel like it is just another game? I kind of felt as though Stuttgart was our big game while I was in school, Hamburg was just another game to me. Yeah we had spirit week and all of that, but it just didn't feel like that big of a deal. So what does everyone else think? Is it still as big of a deal? Okay ppl, you all need to chill. As you can all plainly see from the above quote the question was asked about what game was the most important, like the most important game of the season. All I said was that the Hamburg game was not a conference game, which it is not this year, pull out your little schedules out of your back pockets and check! As for me and my school spirit I would not even be on this site if I did not have any, so before you all jump to conclusions about my school spirit or my lack of I suggest you work on your reading comprehension and go back and read the posts before mine and re-read mine. Another thing, I participated every day this spirit week. I attended a tennis match for Crossett yesterday dressed tacky/mix match/ weird, whatever you want to call it, how many ppl do you know who would go straight from school to a tennis match, dressed strangly? You got that right not very many. This whole post did not begin as a "do CHS students have spirit or not ", it was about important games of the season. I merly responded to the question of important games. As far as conference games go, NO IT IS NOT, since it is not even a conference game. As a rivalry game it is important, and I do believe I said that. If you came to school today students are wearing the most maroon/white face paint you will proably see all season out of them, so yes in that aspect the Hamburg game is important. Heath, thank you for actually understanding what I was saying. Emily, do not ask a question and then come back and completly act like you do not even know what your original question was. I will be at the pep rally this afternoon and the game tonight. Yeah, I know, I have absolutly no school spirit. That's a laugh. ;D

joy07, I don't recall saying "you" didn't have school spirit. I referenced the school as whole. From what you posted today it sounds like there was plenty of school spirit this week. But, it should be that way every week no matter who you play. i know the coaches treat every game like it's a championship game regardless of the opponent or in it's conference or not. I just think the students should see it the same way. Every game is important. Sure conference games help determine seeding for the playoffs but the other games mean alot too. You have to understand when Eddie and I were in school there were no super conferences. We had only 5 teams in 8AAA, Crossett,Dollarway, Dumas, Monticello and Warren. You NEVER EVER lost to Warren, Monticello and Hamburg and rarely to Dumas.
Perhaps if more students were as passionate about the eagles as you are we wouldn't be having this discussion here.

Back to the school spirit issue. I was born and raised in Crossett and have lived here all my life. I have graduated 2 sons from CHS (both involved in athletic program) and have 2 more still in school (also very involved). I love CHS as well as the community of Crossett. I just returned from the pep rally at FNB and, well I just gotta ask. Do our cheerleaders and Eaglettes, as well as our football team, know that there are words to the theme song "Eagles Fly High"? I think the dancing is great, but back in "my day" when the band played the song and the cheerleaders and Eaglettes sang everyone enjoyed joining in. It still stirs an emotion or two when I hear the band strike it up. Since this is just my opinion, I also would like to add that to me it seems as though the Cheerleaders and Eaglettes compete with each other rather than joining together to get the crowd involved. One more thing before I go get ready to go to Hamburg, when our football team entered the bank for the pep rally - should they not have received some kind of ovation. I think that if we want these kids to feel that they are representing the city and the school, we should show them as much support as we can. Also - Coach T - great speech. My sentiments exactly.

Just in from Hamburg, not happy with the results. But, it was one of more exciting Ashely Bowls I have been to in recent years.
Now on school spirit. The crowd was much better tonight. The best I've seen in awhile. The students were alot more participative and band did their job. Now let's do it again next Friday when McGehee comes to town.
Before I go I want to say I'm very proud of our Eagles. They didn't quit and I hope they felt they had the support of the fans tonight. I saw some good things in the Eagles tonight. I saw some leadership in Bubba Turner and Terrell Bryant on the sidelines. The team still has some mistakes to correct but they are getting there. My player of the game is Kyle Cockerham. He made some great catches. As our offensive line improves I think good things will happen.
Also congrats to the Lions on a hard fought victory.

Fun game to watch as a spectator. Positives to draw on if you're either head coach.

This was an exciting game to watch....my feet hurt from all the jumping up and down! There were several mistakes, but I could see that those players and fans wanted this game bad, but unfortunatly I think the penalties got us in the end. The crowd was great and the band did their thing! This was a well matched game:) I hate to admit this, but Hamburg did their thing tonight! Still love my EAGLES and I am so proud of them!

Yeah, I thought the crowd was great tonight. This was probably the most fun high school football game I've ever been to, partially due to the loud crowd. I spent the 3rd quarter on the Hamburg side with my girlfriend and a couple of the other Hamburg band members and such, and the Crossett fans were screaming every bit as loud as the Hamburg fans, especially at the end. I'm very pleased with the way our fans cheered, hopefully we can keep it up, or somehow even improve on tonight.
