Thanks! This is a really fresh schedule because I know that that Hamburg tournament wasn't on tap until a few days ago.

I think that the JV will play in that Hamburg classic like last year but they only have 3-5 seniors so the varsity might just play in this year

Really it is....The students look foward and go to this game every year. It is a good close game every year and last year it went down to the wire! It was an exiting game to see! Should be a good game this year as well!

so is hamburg a outside or inside team?? Hamburg lacks a dominant inside presence but always has a roster full of good jump shooters including two or three who are good from behind the arc. This year the Lions will have at least one who is as good as any three-point shooter who ever has come through Ashley County. They're a legit threat to go deep into the state tournament. If Dollarway could win it a year ago, I don't see why Hamburg couldn't challenge for it this season.

For anyone who didn't listen to/attend the Crossett Eagles vs. Hamburg Lions basketball game tonight, oohh..is revenge sweet? I think it is. Crossett won by a score of 50-46 (I'm pretty sure that's what it was).
I remember people saying how good Hamburg was going to be this year, and how Crossett may struggle in conference play. Are there any different opinions, or do you still think the Eagles may have trouble in conference play? Or did you think Hamburg didn't look as good as you expected?
Also, are there any 'weak' teams on our schedule? If so, which teams would those be?

I wasn't at the game, but listened to much of it on the radio.
I've seen this game be close or swing the other way that it should have in basketball, just as in football, many different times. So we could have seen that happen tonight.
From how it sounded, Crossett pretty much controlled the paint and that also was a factor. Remember I said that Hamburg lacked strong inside play. Even Hamburg's big men--Rhodes, Pippen--aren't really big men at heart. Heck, Pippen plays point guard and Rhodes' best shot is the three ball.
Hamburg also didn't shoot as well as it's capable of shooting, also a factor.
But the main thing is that nobody should have mistaken anything that I said (and I'm sure that anyone else said) about Crossett's likely struggles in conference play to mean that I think that Crossett is going to be a bad team. I can't even begin to tell you how good this conference is this year. I mean it's probably the best single basketball conference that I've ever seen in my 10 years of covering high-school basketball. Even if Crossett was better than a year ago, you might not even realize it because the conference is going to be SO tough.

Nah, no misunderstandings here Heath, I knew what you meant. Hasn't Hamburg won the Lions vs. Eagles basketball game the past couple of years? What was the difference last night?

You know, I'm not even sure that Hamburg and Crossett played last year, and maybe not even the year before. They used to play twice every year but all of the redistricting made that difficult and in the last few years there has been only one matchup on the schedule. It's always really early and because of the football playoffs, sometimes there is interference and the game never gets played. I can remember some years when they were supposed to play twice but played only once (winter weather caused a problem one year).
So over the last few years, I'm not even sure which team has won most of the games but I'd guess Hamburg.
As for what the difference was last night...Crossett got good production out of its front court. That's almost always the difference when the Eagles win, regardless of the opponent. Crossett generally has better forwards and Hamburg has better guards, so when the CHS front court plays better than the HHS back court, the Eagles win.
Hamburg also is a very young team and will have to play up. In listening to the game I heard a lot of sophomores and juniors. I don't think a single senior started and the only seniors that I heard mentioned were Anthony Gaines and Lakendrick Ray. So you'd expect a slow start.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we played last year, because I remember griping at Jeremy (jokingly, of course) for losing. I also remember asking why they lost, and he said something like 'i dunno man, they were just hitting them 3's all night', lol.

All CHS basketball games for this Friday, December 1, have been canceled. I don't know when they will be rescheduled.

Were they cancelled because Warren is still in the playoffs? This happens pretty much every year, it sure would be nice if they could arrange the schedules so that the sports don't interfere with each other.
