Please keep Casy Jenkins in your prayers. You can also add his parents, Debbie and Glen Jenkins. Casy has had pain and discomfort in his back and lower stomach for a while......come to find out he has cancer. He has already had one surgery and cat scans reveal he still has two growths about the size of your fist in his lower abdomen. Lot of pain for a 21 y/o young man. Casy is currently at St. Francis in Monroe and there is a possibility they may move him to M.D. Anderson in Houston, TX soon. Note: This is the same type cancer that Lance Armstrong overcame...and then went on to do great things in the athletic world. Casy may be best known by folks on this site for his baseball and soccer. Casy played on two State Championship Babe Ruth/Bambino baseball teams when he was 10 and 12, played Babe Ruth, High School ( Class of 2005), and American Legion ball in Crossett. He pitched, played Short Stop...but was best known for his Outfield "wonder" catches & his bat. ( I do remember one game in American Legion, he went 6 for 6 against Hampton). Batting "a thousand" with six at bats is good on any body's field. After baseball, he has put of lot of his energy into racing his pick up truck at the drag races all over this area. With all that Jenkins racing vehicle expertise, you know he has had a lot of success in his racing career also. He is a great young man from a great family. Casy has plans to marry his fiance, Samantha Cone, in April. Please keep Casy, Samantha, Debbie, Glen and all the family in your thoughts and prayers. Get Well Soon Casy!

Though I'm sure he and his family would love to stay in Monroe and be near home, my stepdad has been getting treatments at MD Anderson for probably two years now and I really believe they are the best cancer center in the country. There is a facebook group for Casy that those of us with facebook should join to show our support also. Good luck to him and his family, they are in my prayers- keep us updated please.

Update on Casy - MommaEagle & I went to see Casy at the hospital last night. He looks great and is in good spirits. Bad news is - yes he does have cancer that will have to be treated very aggressively including medication and chemotherapy. There are two masses in his abdomen and evidence of spots on his lungs. Good news is - when they looked at the result of the MRI on his brain- the doctor and MRI folks did not see any evidence of any cancer activity in the brain. Also- the doctor said he could tell by looking Casy in the eyes, that he had the look of a young man with the will to fight and an attitude to beat this thing. I couldn't agree more.....I have never seen a time when Casy didn't give 100% or more. If you have ever seen Casy ride a four wheeler....or if you have seen the front wheels of his truck come off the ground at the drag strip "green light", ....or seen Casy water ski, ....or if have ever seen Casy make a diving "all stretched out" catch in center field, you know Casy takes life head on...full blast. Casy Jenkins has never come to the plate looking for a "base on balls"....Casy Jenkins has always come to the plate to Hit The Ball! Keep swinging Casy...we're rooting for you!

Update on Casy - He is scheduled to go to the doctor in Monroe on Monday , Jan. 28th to get his staples out and a post surgery check up. Casy is on a waiting list for getting into M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. They pretty much have to be ready when the hospital calls saying they have an opening. Debbie and Glen really do like the doctor they have in Monroe and have a lot a confidence in the guidance and direction they are going. It also sounds as if this doctor has several colleagues who work at M. D. Anderson. They will be providing valuable input. Hang in there Casy! Our prayers are going up for you and for wisdom for your doctors.

Latest info on Casy as of Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008. Casy did feel some relief as far as back pain after his first chemo treatment last week. After the treatment....he was sick some but the question is whether that was caused by the treatment or by the medication he has been taking. As most of y'all know, M.D. Anderson Hospital is one of the best places in the world for cancer treatment. They also have a neat deal where you can email Casy and one of the MD Anderson volunteer workers will print the email off and hand deliver it Casy's room. Pretty Sweet Huh? If you would like to send Casy an email.... go to this website and where it ask for the Patient number - put in 739399 and if my old baseball memory serves me correctly..his birthday is 02/21/1987. The website is: www2.mdanderson.org/sapp/contact/message.cfm I am sure any words of encouragement would be good.

I think it would be neat if we worked up one big email from crossetteagles.com and we all signed it and sent it to him. Latest info on Casy as of Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008. Latest on Casy Jenkins - Casy's doctors have set him up on a chemo schedule through mid -April. In that schedule - every three weeks, he will have a 5-day chemo treatment. In the weeks in between, he will have a weekly doctors appointment(Thursday's) as well as a "mini-chemo" treatment. So, when you look at the 16 week schedule, he will have five of the 5-day treatments and nine of the 1-day treatments. Folks, that a lot of chemo and medication. Casy is a strong young man and he is approaching this hurdle in life with a vengence....but do keep him in your thoughts and prayers through this battle. An email address at MD Anderson was given earlier in this thread. If you want to send a card or letter, send them to: Casy Jenkins C/O Jim Goode, 25493 Thompson Road, Waller, TX 77484 . Write if you can, it would mean a lot to Casy and his family.

Latest update on Casy Jenkins as of Friday night 2/22/08 - Debbie called Friday with good news!! As a background...when Casy arrived at M.D. Anderson, the doctors ran Casy through a series of tests which included "markers", which (from what I understand) give indication of the effectiveness of the medication and chemo treatments. The first tests in Houston revealed a marker of 38,000....which could have been worse but it was still a concern for the doctors. This past Thursday, 2/21/08 (which was his 21st birthday), when Casy went in for his 5-Day series of treatments, the tests showed the marker was down to only 1200 !!! That was great news and Debbie was proud to call and give that report. The doctors statement when he told them the marker status, was something like "we are going to heal you Casy and send you home". That's what you like to hear the doctor say. At the same time though, these are very aggressive treatments and come with the side effects of nausea, fever, tiredness, etc....and I understand that Casy is beginning to sport the Eaglesvoice hairdo. Casy is well on his way to beating this thing...but he still has a ways to go....through mid-April. Casy and his family appreciate all the cards, letters, etc. as well as all of the prayers. I know the Eagle baseball team included Casy in their pregame prayers this past week. Hang in there Casy. We are proud to hear such good news and look forward to you coming back home.

great news as long as he heals 100%, maybe it will be good later on down the road in that he'll remember to be checked for it on a regular basis (I know most people don't get checkups for this stuff, and that's the worst part).
