If we had McFadden at 100 percent at thingy at quarterback, we're ahead in this ballgame. Instead it's 13-0 midway through the second.
Anybody else notice Mike Nail's saying "There's a scramble for the loose basketball"?

Offense actually impressed me at times. Execution was the issue...dropped passes, interceptions, fumbles.
Folks your new starting quarterback is Mitch Mustain.

Positives: *Play calling. Can be no doubt now that Malzahn's signature is all over this offense. *Defense (for the most part). Defense looked pretty doggone good against the likes of USC...was just out on the field far too long in the third quarter and the offense surrendered all the ground on the turnovers. *Mike Nail. Seemless transition from Paul Eells. *Mitch Mustain. Looked way more comfortable, far more poised than did Robert Johnson.
Negatives: *Turnovers. Felix Jones in particular. He's not prepped to be the No. 1 back. *Linebackers. Seemed to be out of most of the plays. Was Olajabutu's name called all night? *Robert Johnson. Sorry fella. I was neutral on you before tonight, but you've had three years. Your time is up. *Chris Houston's mouth. Shut up and play the stupid game, moron, before you get yourself penalized.
They're still way better than Arkansas. The best the Hogs could have hope for would have been to lose by three TDs. I'm actually more encouraged than discouraged; nobody that Arkansas will see the rest of the season will be as good as USC was, the offense is just going to get better, Mustain will get better and McFadden (who clearly was not 100 percent) will get better.

i was most disappointed in the missed tackles the defense has way before they got tired....you're right about chris houston....way too much mouth and not nearly enough tackling....i agree i was willing to give johnson a chance but he was gun shy....thought we would see the ball over the middle a little more though...still a lot of short passes to the short side of the field....if mustain or dick are gonna be the qb...better do it now before the 7th game of the season.

Lots of screen passes. Johnson couldn't execute them and the receivers dropped way too many balls. Cedric Washington dropped one that hit him right between the 1 and the 0.

No doubt! Hillis dropped one or two, Monk dropped two and failed to get under one that he should have had, Washington dropped a super easy one. Damian Williams caught everythign and Ben Cleveland caught the one that came to him.

i tell ya....the sc offensive play caller did a great job....they kept ark defense on their heels a large portion of the night.....this is no time for nutt to be loyal to the older guys as he has done for so long...if they are not getting it done sit em down and bring on the new blood....i woulda been playing the water boy before i would let felix jones touch it again....mike smith barely got in...

I'm not sure if Nutt made the personnel selection. Remember a few years back it was one fumble and we didn't see you again for the rest of the game, plus you lost your starting spot the next week. Jones would have been yanked after the first fumble and we'd never have seen him again a few years ago.

that's right...and it doesn't matter who is making the calls and personnel decisions if the executions isn't there...not gonna win many.....remembering nutts first yr...play calling was a lot different than in recent years.....he had the play makers even if they were danny ford prospects

Even the ESPN announcers noticed the quarterbacks not talking to each other. I don't know that Mustain could have done alot better but it would have been worth a try. He also scored a TD and threw an interception, so you never know.

I think that it's safe to say at the very least tha we've got a quarteback controversy on our hands.
I think the coaches would be dumb to put Johnson back out there at this point. It should be Dick or Mustain. Johnson has been given more than enough of a chance to prove himself in the last three years.

My 2 cents. Robert Johnson is no better now than he was last year. True, we had several passes dropped that should have been caught. But most of his passes were thrown behind the receiver and has he has no touch. No matter if it's a 10 yard pass or a 40 yard pass he throws everything hard.
Before you go ranting about Mustains pick, Johnson did the same thing. He telegraphed where he was throwing. Thats freshmna mistake. It shouldn't be a 4th year Jr. mistake.
The defense looked good, for the most part. They just lack depth. The D backs once again talk too much crap. Too many blown assignments. They need to concentrate on coverage and tackling and keep thier mouths shut.
It was game one against a team that has been to the national championship 3 times. USC, like it or not , will once again be in contention for the PAC Ten title and a National Championship. I actually like this team. No true superstars, yet.
Arkansas will be fine, as a matter of fact Mustain has just been named the starting QB and Johnson ha been moved to wide receiver. A good move for Johnson, one that could showcase his athletisism and take him to the next level. Part of the QB controversy has been eliminated. I look for Casey Dick to transfer at the end of the season. Especially after Kodi Burns signs in to be a Hog.
