It depends upon definition of "band." To me, "band" has a specific definition, as in a band can play at a high-school dance without any additional accompaniment.
I'm not much on bands, more into musical groups and solo artists. But I'll do what I can here:
1. The Eagles 2. Journey 3. Crosby, Stills and Nash 4. Fleetwood Mac 5. Huey Lews and the News 6. The Police 7. Men at Work 8. The Rolling Stones 9. Little River Band 10. Toto

Ok, so now we have started a favorite bands listing, much easier than top 10 songs. Picking your favorite songs is much harder b/c in a way this implies if you could only listen to 10 songs the rest of your life it would be those. Now in choosing a band, well it's just easier.
1. Pink Floyd 2. Led Zepplin 3. The Beatles 4. Lynard Skynard 5. The Doors 6. Guns-n-Roses 7. The Eagles 8. The Who 9. Mettalica 10. CCR

I'm starting to like you. LOL Here are a few more I like that haven't been mentioned yet. 1. Little River Band 2. Doobie Brothers 3. Kiss 4. Scorpions 5. Kool and the Gang

Here are a few more I like that haven't been mentioned yet. 1. Little River Band Contraire! Re-read my entry. Also I don't county either the Doobie Brothers or Kool and the Gang as "bands" because they use backing vocals and studio musicians. They couldn't just hop up on a stage and play. If you want to extend it to musical groups, I'll have a much different-looking list.

I am probably one of the few in my generation that would. Everybody had a lot of really good bands on their list, but I tried not to put anything that had already been stated as good. Some more of my favs: 1.Nirvana 2. The Ramones 3. Black Sabbath 4. The Rolling Stones 5. Jefferson Airplane

I went back and forth on this one, eventually deciding not to use it because of the "Starship" of the mid '80s (which basically was a studio group--and an unbearable one at that). I don't care for the Jefferson Airplane version. I like Jefferson Starship of the mid and late '70s with Marty Balin as the lead vocalist. Totally different feel than Grace Slick's hairy-armed screeching on "Somebody to Love." Don't ask me what kind of adjective "hairy-armed" is supposed to be. Then there was the version with that same dude who sang "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" on the Elvin Bishop release. Had a hit in that incarnation with "Jane." Also a totally different sound from the other incarnations.

I'm just not a fan of that era in music, period, except for a very few exceptions. Fast forward maybe eight years, that's more my taste.

Someone in the younger generation knows about CCR? I'm starting to like you. LOL I like CCR... I also like Queen, the Monkeys, the Beatles, The Beach Boys... I don't know that they would be considered bands, but I like the groups such as the Temptations, the Jackson 5... My dad always listened to oldies when I was growing up. I love them, it is actual MUSIC.
