Crossett wide receiver Gabriel Bryant, whom I say unabashedly is the most-talented receiver ever to put on an Eagle uniform, has verbally committed to an offer to play football for Louisiana State University.
He's the first commitment of the 2007 class. LSU came calling yesterday, the day after signing day for 2006.
Mississippi State also has offered already. Bryant is going to be a big-time recruit.
Bryant now is at Hodge High in Jonesboro, La., after transferring there just after the football season ended.
Also Jarrett Montgomery, the Crossett tight end who was part of the "Bastrop Three" as they had been dubbed locally, signed with D-IAA Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday. MVS is Jerry Rice's alma mater. Montgomery reneged on an oral commitment to Grambling State that had been extended last year and turned down seven other offers to sign with Mississippi Valley.
Montgomery transferred back to Bastrop, La., High after the football season.

He was definitely talented but I'd take Keith Kidd any day over him. His name came up over on one of the Hog sites earlier today.

The Bryant KID will never make it @ LSU or any other Big name program simply because of his attitude. So look how many High School programs he has played at in the last 3 years

So look how many High School programs he has played at in the last 3 years Some of that though is because of his home situation. He has lived with several different relatives throughout his life. I agree that he will have to become a team player if he is going to reach his ultimate potential.

When did Bryants commitemnet take place? I have searched several recruiting data bases and none list him as even being on the LSU wish list much less a verbal commitment.

Several schools, including Arkansas, already have commitments for next season listed. The recruiting services , however , don't always have all the info. Neither Rivals or Scout had a clue about ASU and Chris Diggs. At Arkansas, Trey Biddy and Otis Kirk provide Rivals withe their info and Duddley Dawson and Clay Henry provide Scout.

The Holloway I was talking about played for the University of Arkansas, not Crossett High School.

Neither Rivals or Scout are saying anything about this commitment but I have been able to get some info out of a couple LSU diehards. They too have heard of the commitment but can't confirm it. However they did confirm that LSU is very much interested.

Not surprised that it would miss the websites. You can't find anything on Jeremy Evans on those sites either, and he's got D-I offers all over the table.
Apparently Bryant went to summer camp down there last year and that's when he first turned heads at LSU. His uncle said that the offer came though after they submitted tape of his games from Crossett.

Well it's finally up at Rivals. The LSU fans seem to be really excited about it.

You got the info before the recruiting services even picked up on it. Click the link again and then look to the left. There will be menu, select high school sports. You'll find a short article there.

I'd be willing to bet he won't stay on the team simply because of his attitude

Bryant's story is up on LSU's rival site: LSU.rivals.com/That photo was one that I shot at homecoming, although I think he's got it attributed to Terry Brooks. The first one that I sent to him was one that Terry shot.
