Well, Crossett isn't really doing lot of "team" work at this point--primarily just conditioning--so you can't put too much stock into this, but here are my observations:
--Team strength is going to be speed. Defensive front likely will be the fastest during Ingram's tenure. It looks like it also might be the smallest. The biggest guy on either line probably won't top 265. That's not really small, but smaller than normal for CHS. Several of those guys actually have lost weight over the summer. C.C. Kilcrease and Jarome Williams both have shed pounds and look noticably smaller. Rod Brown as a rush end could be absolutely devastating.
--Noticed some tweaking in the defense, some talk of changing how the linebackers go about their business. I'm sure this will be shuffled in more over the coming days, but for an early prognosis, coach Ingram seemed very pleased.
--As predicted, offense was one-back with a lot of short passing. I didn't see any work at all on running plays today, but that doesn't mean much at this point. Lots of spreading the ball around to multiple receivers.
--All four quarterbacks got multiple snaps: Turner, Campbell, Huntsman, Lincoln. Huntsman and Lincoln got more than Cambell did. Turner clearly is tops in the rotation.
--Some players that appeared to be working as the first-team defense were Andre Davis, Nick Boston, Kyle Cockerham, Pierce Williams, Drew Williams and Bull Tate (who was wearing the longest shorts that I've ever seen). This was a skeletal type of passing drill and these guys were lined up as linebackers and D-backs. Also was a D.J. somebody out there--name escapes me.
--Some players getting time on first-team offense were Terrell Bryant, Randy Williams and Lacario Paskel. Bryant and Williams both made some good catches. Bryant seems to be carrying himself with much more certainty than a year ago--as you would expect with a year of experience under him.
--Ingram generally seemed in a great mood. Had a spring in his step, expressed encouragement and accolades freely and seemed very pleased with how things were unfolding. This could be just general glee at being around football after the off-season, or it could be indicative of something else. Having worked with him for nearly eight years now I've come to trust his non-verbal clues. The tighter he is, the quieter he is, the less confident he is. The more easygoing that he is, the more confident he is. This would seem to be true of all coaches, but not necessarily--and it's very obvious in his demeanor. I didn't get a chance to speak to him but I came away today thinking that he feels pretty good about this team.
