Anyone got a high school basketball roster and schedule? I have a schedule and will post it when I get time. There isn't a set roster yet because football is still going on. The first Sr varsity game is next Tuesday against Hamburg. That is if both teams are out of the playoffs in football. I have afeeling it will be rescheduled if one or both are still playing football.

I got into the gym for a full practice on Wednesday night. This looks like it's going to be a very good year for CHS. Jeremy Evans is going to be spectacular, possibly the state's best, but his supporting cast looks great.
And one thing that I see out of this team that is new is a real ability to play half-court offense. Top-to-bottom this might be the best shooting team that the Eagles have fielded in upwards of a decade. Defense also should be really good...coach Williams loves to trap and appears to be tinkering with back-court pressure, something that will give opponents fits given Crossett's height.
Looks like out of the probable starting five, just one player (the point guard) will be shorter than 6-2.

Look for a season preview in this week's News Observer, as well as a photo of Jeremy Evans that might entice some people to come out and watch him play.

Not this week...
We are going to cover the majority, some 32 games between the boys and girls. I wish we could, but due to late football and other conflicts, we won't carry the games this week.
I'm gonna try to go tonight tho. Jr. high, Varsity and Sr. High will play. It will be a great time to get a look at what Crossett will bring to the court this year.
Heath...how do you rate the boys ability to run the offense? Surely if they are practicing back court pressure, they must have a winning combo.
GO EAGLES, BEAT THOSE BOBCATS TONIGHT!

I haven't seen a whole lot of gym time but they look like they can run and gun pretty well. You have to remember too that the day that I was there for the whole practice, they were missing a few very good players who still were in football. Those guys probably will be the best pure athletes on the team--Rod Brown, Jarrod Martin, Andre Davis.
Again, what impresses me is how good they look when they slow things down. What got that 2000 team at times was when it would run up against a team that wanted to stall on them. They just didn't have the shooting ability from top to bottom to force teams out of clogging the middle. This team does.
Something that I forgot to mention in the article this week, that I really had wanted to include, is how coach Williams has installed a smaller hoop on one of the goals in the gymnasium that they use to work on free-throw shooting. Free throws (because of a lack of good team shooting) has been another liability in past years and the coach is trying to head that off at the pass.
For instance, just this week Brandon Mayweather up at UAM missed two free throws that would have won the game for the Weevils. His group just couldn't shoot very well, aside from Tristen Ford who basically was a three-point specialist.
Defensively, this team isn't as quick as that one, although there is plenty of athleticism there which is why Robert is trying out those traps that he used to run all the time in '99 and '00. they ran them in the half court back then and what they were working on when I saw them last week was in the back court.
Also I can't emphasize enough how excited they are about Cody Ferguson. He looks like a completely different player than the little we saw of him in the past.

Will someone please posts the scores of the the Dumas/Crossett games Thursday..I will have to work that night and wont be able to attend....thanks again I didn't get to go to the game, but my son did. He said the score was Crossett 54 & Dumas 40. He said that it was a very good game & Dumas was a good team. Thought maybe a scout from ULM may have been looking at a Dumas player.

Well, they were kind of paying attention to the game, I guess. I'm planning on going to some games this year. I understand basketball a little more than I do football. At least I'm not constantly asking someone what's going on.

I need someone to send me a list of the home games that will be on Friday's! Actually can someone send me a list of all Friday games, with so many teams being between here and CRT, I can make some of the out of town games too. I am very excited about this year, I have heard alot about the team, and I am ready to see them in action.

I have the final score as 52-43. Dumas' Charles Walker had an old-fashioned three-point play that made it 50-43. Had Ferguson's hitting two free throws to make it 52. Maybe I'm off.
Dumas is pretty good and will do well in the 8AAA. Crossett probably would have been in some trouble had Jerome Richards not been so limited with foul trouble. He rode the pine throughout most of the middle two periods.
Evans looked predictably sensational but most of his points came off of cleaning everybody else's mess. He must have had a double-double with points and rebounds.

did jerome play down low or was still out around the free throw on offense Mostly low, which surprised me a little bit. I think he's out of position playing the five. When I saw Dumas play Hamburg last year, he was out on the wing and as I recall hit a three pointer to send the game into overtime.
