Down Under Bowl

Has anyone heard of this? I was in the Revenue Office this morning, and I saw a donation box to fund Kyle Cockerham's invitation to the Down Under Bowl. I was told it will pay for his trip to Australia and to Hawaii, and you are also automatically entered for a chance to attend one of the games I believe.

So like I said, has anyone heard of this? I know nothing about it, and couldn't find any good information on it on the internet.

Kyle is the second Eagle to be invited to this. A few years ago Zach Jackson was chosen to participate in this game. Actually I think it may be more than one game involved in this.

Yeah, I think it may be two games, one in Australia and one in Hawaii. Do you know where I could get more information on this?

And of course, I'd like to get the word out as much as possible, so if anyone is able to, please go to the Revenue Office and donate, so he will be able to go.

I also heard a couple of guys from Hamburg have been invited.

Four Hamburg football players went to it in 2001.

Cody Smith, a Hamburg High cross-country runner, has been invited to compete in the Down Under cross-country meet.

My understanding of it is that you are invited to participate in a certain event at a certain place. It's not multiple games in multiple places.

I know that people aren't going to want to hear this, but it isn't really much of an "honor." It's a money-making scheme for DownUnder Sports in the same way that the U.S. Achievement Academy is a money-making scheme. Real "honors" don't cost you $3,500 to accept. I always caution students about stuff like this.

That said, I've talked to a couple of the guys from Hamburg who went a few years back, and they said that they had a blast. It's basically a glorified vacation to Australia.
