Well, we lost in the first round to Alma, but it looks like we have something to look forward to. I would bet that we had the fewest seniors on our baseball team than any AAAAA team, didn't we only have one senior?

Alma did beat Crossett 7 - 0. ALMA only had 5 batters come to the plate in the first inning.....however, they were able to score 2 runs with 2 hits, a sac fly, and savvy base running. Bobby Ross Bryan was pitching..... and got into a groove the next 4 innings with 2 of these four innings being 3 up/3 down. Bobby Ross had a total of 7 strikeouts for the game. The sixth inning is when the ALMA bats came alive with 4 hits plus a HR to score 5 runs. Terrell Bryant came to relieve Bobby Ross Bryan in the 6th inning with 1 out and 2 men on base. I couldn't really figure out the choice of reliever to be Terrell but he did a great job of mixing up his pitches and struck out 2 of the batters swinging at fast balls on the third strike after setting up the batter with those round house curves. Great job by Bobby Ross and a great job by Terell. By the way..... it is good to have a 10th grader on the mound and to be relieved by an 11th grader. Alma's pitcher was a tall kid, senior Trace Green, with pretty good speed, a couple of breaking pitches, and darn good accuracy. He was rarely behind in the count. The umpire called low and outside pitches for strikes and Green worked that part of the strike zone over. Green had 13 k's on Crossett. I would expect this kid has D-1 potential. I would also say 8 of the 9 starters for Alma were over 6 feet tall....or close to it. EaglesVoice and I were sitting behind the plate (calling the game) and we noticed something of interest. The umpire was calling low and outside/inside pitches all night and pitcher, Trace Green for ALMA was using this to his advantage in chalking up the k's......then when Green came up to bat...... Bobby Ross threw a fabulous left hand breaking pitch that caught the inside corner.....the ump rang him up when Green was left flat footed staring at the 3rd strike pitch......Green turned around and mouthed something to the umpire about his call.....??!! Green was the third out and when he returned to the mound to pitch ....the umpire wasn't as free to call the low and outside pitches as strikes as he did before. Hmmmmm....if you are a young pitcher reading this thread....make note to self...Don't mouth off to the umpire who has helped you get 13 k's. By the way......EaglesVoice and I did call the game for QLite. On the way to the ball game.....about Smackover....I got a call from Dennis. Apparently...the broadcast team from a sports network that Dennis had contracted could not make it to call the Crossett game. Rounding up EaglesVoice who was already in the bleachers, an ear bud headset, and a well charged cell phone....the show did go on. Not wanting to let the Eagle fans and sponsors down......the game was called by the bald headed Eagle as if it had been planned that way all along. To also answer a question from earlier...... we did have 2 seniors on the field last night. Bubba Turner on short and Colton Williams in right field. Bubba and Colton will surely be missed next year.....but the good news is the rest of the team will be back next year with a lot of play time under their belts. It is my understanding Alma had 9 seniors on their squad this year. Summer ball is on its way....

I got to see 2 outstanding ball games today in Camden. Greenwood battled back from an 8-1 deficit to defeat Camden Fairview 12-8 and Magnolia battled back from a 4-0 deficit with Harrison to win 8-4. But the best games of the Day were the 2-0 shutout Malvern by the Crossett 12 and under team featuring a 1 hitter by Crossett's Walker Davis. And the 5-4 nail biter that went 9 innings between Crossett and El Dorado. Unfortunately Crossett had the 4 and finished 3rd in the Camden classic. Not bad for a group of kids that practiced once before heading off to play ball together.

For those hardcore baseball folks who are interested.....the unofficial scorebook of the CHS vs Alma State Tourn game (kept by me) is attached. Hopefully most of this is understandable.

me too; i just right-clicked and opened them in a new window. I suspect that they aren't loading properly because the URL for them isn't actually an image file. It is named as an image file--which is strange--but it in fact is not an image file.

Okay cool, thanks Heath, that worked for me. Actually, I had to right click and go to properties, and copy/paste the URL...I dunno if it's an IE7 thing, or what, but it wouldn't let me open in new window or tab.
