My take on last night:
It's very hard to tell what you're seeing in these types of games. The offense looked pretty good, but I'm not sure if what we saw should make Crossett fans feel good about the offense, bad about the defense, or some other kind of way.
I was really impressed with the variety of formations and play-calling. The Double-Wing formation is something usused by CHS teams before, and the Eagles even ran some option pitches out of it which Ingram never has done before in his tenure here.
In all of the formations there was a lot of ball-faking and misdirection, like we've never seen out of Crossett before. This is the Wing T as it was designed to work, something more like Lanny Dauksch's old teams at McGehee used to run so effectively. At field level I had a heck of a hard time following the football (my photos suffered because of it). This is a change from how Ingram's teams used to run the Wing T, which was more of a power-running offense.
Defensively, and I'm not just saying this because his dad is a member here, CB Tyler Huntsman was in on just about everything, and DE Brandon Willingham (who will be probably the smallest d-end in the conference) fared well. Offensively, Rod Brown played better than I've ever seen him play on a football field. He had two good catches, one of them for a score. Neither one of the passes were thrown particularly well and he showed what great hands that he has naturally. Vince Newton also looked good, especially for a senior who hasn't played since junior high. Shame that he blew his knee out back then because three years in the system probably would have made him a college-caliber receiver.

Several Eagles looked pretty good last night. Pierce Williams was in the backfield several times. He and Huntsman are not afraid to lay a lick on you. Drew Williams is a bruiser with the ball. I did like the the msidirection that was used. It reminded me of Dumas back in the early 80's.

So how is the line this year? And what about Nick Boston??

O line looks to be very good. D line has the potential but Crossett hasn't had a really great D-line since I've been here...always has been best in the secondary.
Nick had a quiet night. Coach has said that he'll use him offensively a lot.

I think Boston broke up at least one pretty impressive pass attempt in Friday nights scrimmage. So who went to Nashville last night? I didn't get to make the trip but am anxious to hear how our boys did.

I know of no one who did...no board regulars anyway. Rod Harrington's report on Fearless Friday (he's a beat writer for Junction City) said that both Rod Brown and Rodney Brown were impressive and that Dominic Lincoln completed some short passes. That's about it.

From what I've seen in practice it looks like it's going to be mostly cornerback, but Ingram told us that he was a starting wide receiver. However, in the Wing T, you don't even really have a wide receiver, just a tight end who lines up outside for a few plays a game.

I think Nick will be a outstanding CB but going both ways is going to be a killer for anyone. Just how many of the kids are going to be going both ways this year??

Full time it looks like maybe only Allen Brooks. Lots of them are going to split time on both sides.
