Here is what I believe that we've learned about this team:
•Lacario Paskel is one fine high-school tailback, possibly the best of the Ingram era. He might even be the best running back at any position, other than Ray Charles Tucker. •The defense misses Rod Brown more than the offense does. •Terrell Bryant is developed into a whale of a blocker, and I'll bet that NOBODY would have predicted that three years ago. •This team is still very fast even without Bull Tate (who no longer is on the team) and with both Browns out hurt. •Hands-down this is the most multi-dimensional CHS offense that I've ever seen. It's a shame that we didn't see it in that first game because had we, I feel certain that the Eagles would have won. •Passing game still needs work on the long routes but the short routes are great weapons. •Offense is going to have to put up big numbers for this team to win. •Drew Williams is a defensive monster. He's probably working himself into a Division II scholarship offer this season.
Those are my observations. Feel free to add yours.

I didn't know Rod Brown was injured, how bad is it?

He hasn't played since the early part of the second half of the first game. Pulled quad muscle. he told me on Friday that he could have played but the coaches were being very cautious and decided to hold him out against McGehee.

I hear Bull Tate has been practicing with the team this week. I hope he's not off the team again. He has a lot of talent going to waste if he doesn't get it together and stay healthy. I am under the impression that he has been out with an ankle injury and not for disciplinary reasons. He's really a fine young man and I hope that whatever his problem has been, he can overcome it and be a part of this team. And what about little Rodney Brown and Jamar Cason? How serious are their injuries? Won't we be awesome when everybody gets healthy!!

Can't wait to find out- Our team has improved by leaps and bounds since the Magnolia game IMO, especially since we won those games without Brown and Tate- with those two guys back on the team (if it happens), we'd be darn near unstoppable on offense. I've never seen Tate play, but I hear he's a beast, and I'd definitely love to have him on the team to possibly split time with Paskel on carries so he won't get so worn out.

If he is back again that's good, as long as he keeps himself in check. The guy might be the best natural football player at CHS since I've been here. Even RCT wasn't nearly as good as early as Tate was. I never found out the story on Rodney Brown but I spoke with Cason briefly on Friday and he said that he has a slight ankle sprain and expected to be back as soon as this week's game. I think that Ingram probably was playing it a little cautious with the guys who had injuries to prevent worsening them before getting into conference play. Good move.

It will definitely be awesome. The question is, will it be 2003 awesome? That's sort of out the window already, isn't it? That team went undefeated in regular-season play. Had both of them against Magnolia but that one ended up a loss. I still maintain that the Eagles are infinitely better than the Panthers but simply did not run their best offense. It's really strange because against Hamburg and ESPECIALLY against McGehee, they were SO varied and unpredictable offensively. Seriously, the Eagles were more unpredictable against the Owls than I've ever seen them since I began covering this program a decade ago. It really makes one wonder how many wins that this team could have amassed with that sort of thinking over the last two seasons. These guys are good, and by that I mean talented. Nobody in the conference will hang with their talent. They'll struggle all season against teams that pass the football well (PA), but if they put up big offensive numbers as they are capable, they still can win a lot of games. I'm not sure that it ever will get to this point...Tate more likely will play fullback when the Eagles get into the I formation. Probably will not be the lone setback out of the Spread. He might have been able to do that had he not missed so much time. He is something else, though...power and speed. Raw talent he's easily the top RB on the team. Raw talent he's also probably the second or third LB on the team.

I have zero doubt this team could go 9-1 in regular season. Getting a healthy Rod Brown back will only increase the chances of that happening.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of how deep we can go into the playoffs, but yeah- an undefeated season doesn't look too likely this year

How deep they can go in the playoffs depends on how much they improve, the draw that they get and how healthy that everyone stays. This team has the talent to do make it to the semis just like that team did.

Did Tate play against the senators? Yes; he had to get in quite a few snaps on defense late in the game because Drew Williams left the game hurt. Had one tackle for a loss. Depending on the severity of Williams' injury he may end up starting next week, both ways.

How good is Tate looking, considering he is getting in the game later in the season than everyone else? Could he be a big help on offense and defense?

Tate has missed a lot of practice time but yes, he could make a huge impact if he gets his head together. He has incredible talent. Really he could make a bigger impact on offense than on defense.
