The CSD, under direction from the board, tonight voted to spend around $1.2 million in construction of a new locker room for the girls (desperately needed and about 10 years too late) and a new track.
As discussed previously, because of space issues, some things are going to have to be changed to fit the eight-lane track into the space occupied currently by a six-lane track. And it's going to take some time to do it. One positive side benefit is that the bandstand is going to have to be moved. The existing one will be torn down and a new one erected on the field-house side.

Yes...didn't mean to leave out that point of clarification.
Although I'm having trouble picturing it in my mind, because there's far less available space down there as there is on the concession-stand side.

Actually, they are doing that at my request. For the band 1) we can better play for the team as they enter and/or exit the field from there, 2) we have better access to the field and back from there, and 3) there won't be NEAR the traffic around the band area as there would be on the other end (concession end). Hope this helps.
There is an option to move the current stand to the home side also. If there is a money problem, this would save a pretty good chunk of change, and I am not opposed to it, if this is what needs to be done.

Is it going to be sort of angled toward the field (like the one in Monticello is)? At the meeting on Monday it was said that the bandstand will sit in front of the track's finish line, but unless the finish line shifts significantly during construction, or the home bleachers are altered in some way, that can't happen. The current finish line sits almost parallel with the edge of the existing bleachers.
I do think that that's the "right" end of the field to put it...I just wish that more forethought would have been used when the stadium had its major upgrade 15 or 20 years ago. There is a huge amount of wasted space down there.

Heath, now you know that forethought is not a strong point in CRT.

I'm not sure of the exact placement, but it was my impression that it would be either on or next to the large concrete pad already there.

Personally I like the idea of the band being close to the locker room. Makes much since to have them close when the team is entering and exiting the field.
If the track is going to lengthened towards the field house them the straight away obviously is going to be longer and therefore the finish line will be moving also.

The old track is now gone. The new band area is being built. It is just to the right (from the perspective of looking from the stands at the field) of the current stands. It's not as high as the old one, but appears to be as large. I can't tell if it is from all new material or if they are using some of the seating from the old shell, but it really is not important to me. You cannot get into the field at this time to look closely.

It looks to me to be nearly 100 pecent the old bandstand. I had some photos sent to me from when it was being moved. I think the covering might be new.

Heath- I also have a couple of digital photos of the band stand as it is being moved to its new location. The sides and roof were demo'd and the stands were put on a low-boy trailer and moved to the southwest corner of the field. If you need the photos, let me know. PoppaEagle

I got some good photos sent to me but they were highly-compressed and of too low a resolution for us to use in print. I would like to use some of the actual move if there are workers in the shots doing something. Need to be high-res. If you have anything like this, send it along. news@ashleynewsobserver.com
