So...has anybody else given upon this season, as I have? I actually was looking forward to this year until now. Call me pessimistic but I don't see McFadden's ever being the same again--seen this kind of thing happen too many times before.
He has nobody to blame but himself and I'm not willing to cut him any slack. It's not as if staying out of a riot at a dive in the worst part of a city known for crime anyway is a difficult thing to do...particularly at 4:30 in the morning when you're 19 years old.
Congratulations, Darren...you may have just bought yourself a one-way ticket to the welfare office. You had the world by the horns, and now you've gone and let yourself get gored.

I don't think the sky is falling yet chicken little. I'm of the 'it's not that big of a deal' camp. He is 19 years old and heals quickly. We'll be just fine. Don't panic yet.

It's not so much that Arkansas is losing him for part of this season; I have fears that he never will return. Potentially he was the best running back in America and I'm afraid (as with both Cedric Cobbs and D'Arrius Howard) he never will reach the promise of his freshman season. I'm sick of seeing that happen at the U of A.
Arkansas without him never will be what Arkansas could have been with him. So I'm already disheartened and have lot my enthusiasm. I wouldn't have felt nearly as badly about it had we'd had him for at least a few games. I doubt we're ever going to get to see him, or the offense, at fulll strength.

There is no way this is a season ending injury.

But think about this...he's out for six weeks, also has a suspension tacked on, half of the season is over with and by the time that he can come back, other people have taken his PT and it's hard to get him back into the lineup (even if he does get back to 100 percent this year, whch I doubt).
It was a horrific dislocation, so bad that his toe separated and broke through the skin. Basically his toe came off (his big toe on his left foot as I understand). Trainer Dean Weber said he'd never heard of anything like it. Sounds pretty serious. There's always the distinct chance of infection that could keep him out longer.
A toe is pretty important for a running back, especially one like McFadden who is shifty and fast. He's got to push off of that foot. It may never feel "right" to him again, so he may never get over that hump mentally, even if he recovers physically.

I agree, a running back's big toe is one of the most important parts of his body physically. BUT, from what I've heard, his injury isn't nearly as serious as something like turf toe (I think Dean Weber or Nutt said that), and he's most likely going to be back during part of the Bama game, or the next game at the latest. Hopefully that turns into reality, because I'm also sick of seeing the previously mentioned Hog running backs have an outstanding freshman season, only to fall short of expectations.
If there is a bright side to this, running back is the one place Arkansas CAN afford an injury. We have more depth there than anywhere else, and I've heard good things about this new guy Mike Smith. He, Felix, and Peyton should be able to pick up the slack quite well I think.
