I can't figure out exactly what happened with this...
Driving from North Crossett this morning I was on the inside lane of Highway 52 and there was a black truck in the outside lane ahead of me by about a car length. I was looking straight ahead and thinking about other stuff and so didn't really pay attention to a small white-colored object on the edge of the truck bed in the corner of my vision.
It got my attention when it went over the edge with a yelp. Turns out that it was a small terrier; it either jumped out of the pickup bed or fell off of the top of it (not sure since I wasn't looking directly at it beforehand). The dog hit the pavement and tumbled, rolling for several feet before, assumingly, he fell into one of the yards alongside of the highway. Thank God there wasn't a vehicle tailgating the truck (as is normally the case on that stretch of roadway), but I'm not really sure that it made a difference given how small the dog was, how far it fell, the surface that it fell to and the speed that the vehicle was traveling.
I passed the truck a little stunned and tried to figure out exactly how that had happened. It appeared to me as though the driver was a teenaged boy and his mother (I'm guessing) was in the passenger seat. Both of them, the boy especially, looked as perplexed as I was--they were looking in their rear-view mirrors--and they pulled over to turn around.
I'm not sure if they had put the dog in the truck bed to transport him somewhere (that would seen really unlikely considering how small the dog was) or if the dog had climbed in without their knowledge before they left. It might not even have been their dog I guess.
Just wondering if anyone else saw this happen.
