What do you guys think about Mitch Mustain and Casey Dick? It's weird to me because it is clear that the package that the team runs with Dick there isn't the same one that it runs with Mustain there. First thing that Dick does when he gets into the game is take a shot deep, which Mustain really hadnt' done all game.
It's weirdly reminiscent of when Johnson started, then Mustain came in and immediately took a shot deep. Now it looks as if Mustain is using Johnson's offensive package.
So is there compelling evidence to be playing Dick right now over Mustain?

i have always thought RIGHT NOW that dick should be playing.....mustain still doesn't look comfortable and it's obvious the coaches aren't comfortable with him all the way either...you are right for all we've heard about mustain's arm....where is it?....this is his 6th game...he should be slinging it by now.....they have the receivers....i still think dick would be more effective OVERALL....

From what I hear, they have chosen Mustain because of his presence and confidence in the huddle and things like that. I also think they run short passes for Mustain to get his confidence up (which, if it's not up by now, it never will be...), but they know Casey can take the shots deep down field with confidence.
They seem to be playing Mustain simply for game experience. I think if they could go back to the start of the season, they'd probably redshirt him and let Casey play this season. Since it's too late, they will probably get him all the experience they can this season though. I mean, hey..when your QB is 6-0 (or whatever it is), I wouldn't make a change either. The Hogs have beat some TOUGH teams with Mustain at QB, but it seems to be clear that Casey has the arm and the poise to start for a whole lot of programs.

If they keep winning, they can put Keith Jackson at QB for all I care.

No question Casey needs more pt but as long the Hogs win with Mustain he wil be the man. I think Malzahn and Nutt are purposely limiting his passing right now. I still believe that before he leaves the U of A he will be known as the best passer we ever had/.

Mustain looked sharp yesterday, but without going vertical some we're right back where we always have been with not being able to run effectively because there's no threat of a pass.
I think that they should come out slinging against ULM next week just to give the passing game a workout.
What did you guys think of the weird new wrinkle with McFadden's taking snaps from center?

I like McFadden taking snaps. The more odd littlle tricks we do, the harder it will be for the opposition to prepare for all of them on top of working on basic defense.
I know when I play NCAA football on XBox, one of the most effective plays in the Arkansas playbook on there is the HB Direct Snap from the shotgun, lol.

I think we will see Dmac throwing from that set eventually. possibly a lateral back to Mustain with Monk ,Cleveland, Crawford or Williams down field. would love to see the Vols or LSU burned by that.
We are starting to see more and more of the playbook. Makes me excited to think about what will happen over the next couple years. Was good to see Hillis get more involved yesterday. He makes this O even more dangerous. you key on DMac and Jones and "BAM" Hillis comes out of the backfiled on a screen. I think it is getting harder and harder for teams to prepar for the Hogs.
You know Mustain would have been at almost 200 yesterday if monk had of caught that pass. I thought mustain did what he was asked to do. As for him not throwing deep, I don't think we will see alot of deep passes with him until the staff thinks he is ready.

well the great thing about us now is the teams really are not sure what is coming where as the past years the other team knew we where going to line up and run the ball every play

Yeah, the opposition used to be able to put their best linebacker on McFadden all day, and now they can't do that. If they do that, they will get beat by Jones, Hillis, and any number of receivers. If we start going deep more, they would have to play honest defense everywhere and McFadden could go back to running free like he is able to do.

You guys might not know this but McFadden played QB some in Oak Grove's Wishbone offense during his senior year.

You are correct, sir. I didn't know he played QB in high school. Was he any good, or what? Maybe he can be used in some trick plays with the deep ball or something. Just curious, did he play any defense in high school?

Just curious, did he play any defense in high school? He basically stood in at QB, and in the Wishbone the QB is little more than glorified running back. I'm not sure how many passes that he ever threw, if any. He was shifted over there infrequently and mainly when Oak Grove was behind. I know that it happened for instance when Oak Grove played Alma in the playoffs a couple of years ago, a game that OG lost. He did play defense in high school. He was a safety and a darn good one. But I laughed at all of the fools who said that he'd be a safety at the U of A. You guys know who you are. I'm sure that none of you would admit it now, but I remember!

Yep, he's definitely one of those guys that can do anything. Just curious, Marcus Monk has no plans to play basketball this year, right? I wouldn't think so, because the bowl game we play in would cut into his basketball lol.

I hope nobody leaves early. Kind of depends on how things go. If they think they've got a real shot at a national championship next season, I doubt that anybody goes anywhere.
