Jeremy Evans has had a rough start at Western Kentucky.
He was held out of a preaseason intrasquad game last week because he sustained a concussion during practice. Then he was held out of a preseason game with Kentucky State on Tuesday because he injured his jaw or mouth (I've heard conflicting reports) and cut his lip badly enough to require stitches.
Head coach Darren Horn has high expectations for Evans and said in a postgame interview on Tuesday that the team had missed him, that he will play "a lot" this year and that he expects him to play on Saturday, the team's regular-season tip-off.
Based on what I've been reading, the Hilltoppers appear to be without a genuine rebounding force and because of that, Evans may end up being on the floor a lot this season.

Man, that's a tough break for him, but I'm sure he'll come back fine from it. What happened to his mouth??

He had a collison in practice, same thing that happened whe he got the concussion. They say that Horn's practices are "brutal" so I'm guessing that Evans ended up being the casualty. The bad thing is that under Horn they've lost several guys for many games because of injuries sustained during practices.

Evans did play last night vs. Kenneshaw State, and had a pretty impressive debut considering that he'd been held out of the preseason games. Played 11 minutes, scored six points on three of five from the floor (two dunks including one on an inbounds pass), blocked two shots, had two rebounds.
Evans might end up working to the starting lineup for a few games this season because of the lack of height and rebounding ability in WKU's front court.

I got to see the last few minutes of the Western KY-Georgia game tonight on channel 31. Jeremy was playing at that time. The first time WK had the lead in the game was in the last 19.7 seconds of the game. They were able to hang on & win. It was a very exciting win for WK & exciting for me to see Jeremy play!
