I'll be willing to bet that the vast majority of the Razorback fanbase feels the same way as Eddie, and wants him to stay at this point. If they want him gone up there, they will look at how deep he goes in the ncaa tournament; I don't think he can afford to lose to USC if they already planned to fire him before the SEC tournament.

This is HUGE for the Razorback basketball program. If we get Billy G. (don't know how to spell his last name for sure) from Texas A&M, that'll be amazing IMO. But rumor has it Texas A&M is going to offer him $25M over the next 10 years, and I don't think Arkansas can match that offer money-wise, can we? If we don't get him, we could be in trouble, especially with Kentucky searching the market for a new coach.

Well, we apparently aren't getting Gillispie, but I did hear that a "big-name" coach inquired on the job at Arkansas. Hopefully we can get someone like Tim Floyd from USC. If we have to downgrade to the So. Illinois coach or someone like that, F. Broyles will have made a huge mistake, because I believe Arkansas beat Southern Illinois early in the season, maybe in the Old Spice Tournament or something? I don't remember for sure.

It looks like we are finally settling on a new coach, and hopefully that new coach is John Calipari of Memphis. This quote is from www.hogwired.com. "Arkansas will make a major announcement concerning its basketball program and its head coaching position today at 5 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena. A short introduction ceremony will be held at midcourt. Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles and Arkansas chancellor John A. White will be in attendance as well as the new head coach of the Razorbacks." I've got my fingers crossed, hopefully everything will work out well for us Hog fans and the basketball program.

Yep, that's the word I'm hearing, also. I've never really watched Creighton play or anything, so I don't know much about him. Hopefully he can be successful at Arkansas. Didn't Eddie Sutton come to Arkansas as a no-name coach from Creighton, or am I confused about something?

I've been listening to Altman in the press conference and on 104.9, and I like him. I wasn't impressed at first, because I had never really heard of him, but I think he can take this program places that Heath never took us. I also like the 40 minutes of press defense he said he always plays.

Fox Sports just reported that Altman is going back to Creighton...hopefully this isn't true, because that would probably destroy the program... EDIT: It has been confirmed; Altman is leaving. The search for a coach continues. This is enough to break the spirits of even the most die-hard Razorback fan.

Sounds like he probably made the right choice since Frank is still very much in control. He evidently learned alot more after the press conference than he did before. I know he is glad he never signed the infamous dotted line.

Did you guys notice how much emphasis was placed on not winning, but filling the bleachers?

If you look back at the press conference you can tell he wasn't into it. I think he realised the pressure to win was going to be greater from the fans than he has at Creighten. The majority of Arkansas fans were not happy with the intial hiring anyway. The university is doing it right now by bringing in the Atlanta firm to do the search. No more embarrassing episodes like it has been and coaches can keep their names out of the paper until they are hired. Arkansas will have to buy big bucks now to get a coach. I don't buy into Altman not liking the control of Broyles. He would only have to endure ir for 9 months or so. Keep your eyes open and ears peeled, I expect Ken Hatfield to be named AD.

Well, the truth is coming out. Altman backed out because of a bait-and-switch. We've got three ineligible players, one for grades and two for drugs, and apparently several others who are in academic hot water who might not end up cutting the mustard before the end of the summer.
I KNEW that there had to be more to this.

All this is making Houston Nutt look good, huh? Squeaky clean Mr. nice guy Heath had no control of his team. A person can be too nice as a coach. Now my question is, the random drug testing done on may 29 or 27 was university wide for all sports. What other sports had players fail? remember last year baseball lost a key player for steroid use.

Even if we got a somewhat decent coach (and I don't think we will), he will probably not be able to recruit well and bring in 7 good players. I expect us to be hiring a new basketball coach in 2-4 years or so, and we won't be able to spend the big bucks on him either, because we'll still be paying for whoever we get now. It's just a big mess. Even through all the Hog football nonsense, I never said "I'm done with this", but I'm on the verge of being done with Razorback basketball (until we get some good things going again).

I gave up last year after the 0-3 start in conference play. but I was hoping that with the hiring of a proven, top-flight coach that I'd be back on board.
Arkansas failed to do that. Between the football flop of the last year and this basketball mess, we're a joke on the national scene.
Mr. C it won't be getting better anytime soon. It is my feeling that Arkansas athletics as we have come to know it is a dead animal. It's going to take a generation to get back everything that has been lost over the last few years, and that's if we ever get it back at all.

Yeah, I agree that nothing will change any time soon. We are at LEAST years away from recovering. Oh, and about Altman...you could really tell he didn't fully want to coach the Razorbacks at the press conference, because he kept talking about Creighton and his friends, and he wouldn't even do the Hog Call...he just kinda stood there and halfway did it, like he was embarassed, and then said something like 'my friends back home won't like that'. I didn't think much of it at the time, but it really makes sense now that he left.
