GREAT POST HEATH!!! Pistol Pete was the MAN, U might mention that the Jazz uni was still in New Orleans B4 they moved to Utah. Every Kid in America wanted to be like "Droopy Socks", we just didn't understand that Press (Pete's Dad) forced this talented youngster to "practice" 8 to 10 hours a day! As a freshman in HS he practiced against the Varsity at Clemson (B4 Press took the head coaching job at LSU)! I wish someone would figure out how many points he'd have gotten at LSU if college had of had a 3 point line while he played and that freshmen could have played with the varsity! Thanks Heath, again GREAT POST Cantley

Pete was awesome, but you're right, it came at a steep price. At times he even was suicidal, based on some things that I've read about him.
Those passes are just ridiculous. I don't know that anyone ever will be better at those kinds of razzle-dazzle passes. And the thing about it is, he did it within the context of the game to make his team better.

Who said white men can't jump? I have watched that before, it is kinda like watching a John Wayne movie, you never get tired of watching the good ones.

Heath - great video clip. Sports Illustrated had an article on Pete recently. (Jan 8th, 2007). Good reading and brought back a lot of memories. The article mentioned that Pete's dad would open the back door of the car....make Pete lay in the back seat and dribble the basketball on the road while driving at different speeds. Note: Around here, if a father drives his son around with the back door open...there is usually a spotlight, a rifle, and a dead animal involved. Oh well. After reading the SI article and viewing the video clips....I strolled through the internet. Check out this site - sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0701/gallery.nba.maravich/content.1.htmlWhat is interesting about PM's life is what he found out after all the fame and fortune and basketball career. Re: excerpt from some information found while looking at some Pistol Pete info on the internet - ************************** A Letter From The Heart Since all-night talk show host Larry King had heart surgery, he has received letters and gifts. No letter has affected him as much as one he received Monday. With a Bible was the following message, dated December 31: "Dear Larry, I'm so glad to hear that everything went well with your surgery. I want you to know that God was watching over you every minute, and even though I know you question that, I also know that one day it will be revealed to you. My prayer is that you remain open and God will touch your life as He has mine. Once I was a disbeliever. When I could not fill my life with basketball, I would simply substitute sex, liquid drugs, or material things to feed my internal shell-like appearance. I was never satisfied. I have finally realized after 40 years that Jesus Christ is in me. He will reveal His truth to you, Larry, because He lives." It was signed by Pete Maravich. Tuesday, Maravich, former college basketball and NBA luminary, died. -- The Toledo Blade ***************************************** Interesting ....& it does give you something to think about.
