Just wondering if anyone else has heard that the Board requested Janice Warren's resignation? No longer living in Crossett so I can't get the news like we use to. Not trying to start a rumor...just wanted to know the news if any.

I haven't heard that yet. Any idea why they might be wanting the resignation?

Not much news on that front really. Yes, the request for resignation was presented. But no resignation was tendered.

Thanks Heath for the information. I heard she wouldn't give her resignation. My guess for the request....the poor job the schools are in. There are issues that haven't reached the press and won't probably because of the fact the school doesn't want it publicized. The state taking over the district would be a good thing in my opinion.

Yeah, would there be a major downside to the state taking over? And how long would it probably be before the state stopped running it? I'm not exactly sure how that works.

I am hesitant to leave this thread up but will for the time being. This is a touchy subject and is on going. Let's be sensitive on what we post on this. Believe me, I have much to say on this issue, but I'll use restraint.

cdgn, don't think that just because something doesn't appear in print that the press doesn't know about it. There are a lot of things that I know about that I haven't published (because I have not been able to cross-check sources yet) or wouldn't publish (for ethical reasons, questions of authenticity or simple pointlessness).
There also is plenty that we print that the district isn't happy about.
As for a state takeover, that's not going to happen (at least not anytime in the foreseeable future). Districts have to be grossly mismanaged (chiefly financially) for that to happen. The Crossett School District actually is in good shape financially. After flirting around with financial disaster several years ago, the district has rebounded very well.
Losing students is hurting the district, however.

Yeah, the students leaving the CPSD is clearly becoming a problem. I don't remember it being that way several years ago, is this a pretty recent problem? I don't really understand it, it's almost like the students think it's "cool" (for lack of a better word) to leave for another school; at least that's the impression I get when I talk to those who want to leave.

ok thanks to all that have posted comments. I agree this is a touchy subject. Heath, as for the comment I made about issues not being the press....didn't mean to offend or upset you. I just think the public should know the sort of things going on within the schools ...personal opinion. As for what happens when the school is taken over by the state...financially CISD is in good shape. That's a positive. However, test scores are a whole other subject.

Heath, as for the comment I made about issues not being the press....didn't mean to offend or upset you. That's OK, you did neither. I just wanted you to understand that there is a lot that I know about and have known about for a long time that has not seen print, for one reason or another. (Also don't think that I'm saying that anybody ever has strong-armed me into not printing anything "negative" about the district. I don't mean that at all.) I do agree that it's the public's right to know because that comes with the territory of having a PUBLIC school district.
