Does anyone know if there is a website that will have info for the upcoming 9 Year Old Southwest Regional Tournament in Crossett?
Also, as an out-of-towner, can you suggest places to stay/eat? I have heard that rooms in Crossett are now scarce. Would you suggest Monticello/El Dorado/ Monroe?
Thanks!

Not only is Ashley Inn the best, but it's also probably about a mile from the playing fields, right? The other three towns you mentioned are all near/more than an hour away. About places to eat, Fiesta Linda is good mexican food, I hear Chen Chen is good Chinese food, Western Sizzlin' is decent, and then we have several fast food places. I personally love the Huddle House also. EDIT: Oh, and Keith, you have to stay in Crossett...we need all the money we can get have fun at the games

Try going to this site for info. gocrossett.com/sportscomplex.htm The Ashley Inn is the best but Lakewood Inn has recently begun renovations. If you have to stay elswhere I'd suggest Monticello. It's only about 30 minutes away.

Last year we had a problem with a few teams reserve rooms then get beat out of state and not make. Then they refused to let the rooms go because they were bitter about the loss. Does anyone know who else besides Bryant is coming from Arkansas South? What about Arkansas North?

Maumelle & Hot Springs were in the Championship Game, with Bryant finishing 3rd. I think Monticello is getting an "automatic" bid (as a local team?). Star City finished ahead of Monticello, but I am not sure if they are invited or not.
I heard that Jonesboro won the North Division, and Bentonville was also coming.
All I know so far.

There will teams from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. A total of 16 teams are as follows: Crossett, Monticello, Hot Springs, Star City, Bentonville, Bryant, El Dorado, Jonesboro, Maumelle, Little Rock Junior Deputy Kenner, LA; Vicksburg,MS; Oakgrove, MS (Hattisburg area); Allen, TX; North Randal County, TX (Amarillo); Eagle Pass, TX. In Cal Ripken Baseball, the 9 year olds do not have a World Series....therefore, in a sense, this is their World Series. I have talked to a lot of the parents and coaches who are coming and there seems to be a real excitement around this tournament. As you can see, quite a few Arkansas teams are able to come this year and this can be good for several reasons. With this many local/state teams.....the number of people attending should be substantial. A definite economic boost for Southeast Arkansas. The opening ceremonies will be Thursday night, 7/19 at 6:30 pm. Activities will include a presentation of the teams and coaches, the state flag presentation by each team, a home run derby, and the first game ball will be brought to the playing field by two parachutist. There will be two players from each team (total of 32) competing in the home run derby. We are looking to put 16 players in the Home dugout, and 16 players in the visitors dugout. We are looking for volunteers to coordinate the players in the dugout. That would be 16 nine year olds, in a confined space, with aluminum baseball bats. Thursday - Opening ceremony starts at 6:30 pm Friday & Saturday - Pool Play (4 pools of 4 teams). Play starts at 9:00am. Games are scheduled every two hours up thru 7:00pm...on two fields. Sunday - Single elimination tournament begins at 9:00am. Monday - Championship game - 6:00 pm. There is to be an article in the News Observer this week with more detail on the tournament. For a great time and great baseball.....come to the sports complex and check it out.

Great JOB Rick better JOB GREG BENNETT. Did I know what I was doing or what when I conned Rick into taking the job as the Local TD. Please, Please continue to do your ANTI-Rain dances and rituals to insure we are able to play 31 games in 4 days (30 in 3 days) and have a Champion Crowned by around 7/7:30pm Monday. Don't forget Championship game Monday starts at 6:pm. Rick Williams IS DA MAN!!!!

I can report Bryant beat Amarillo TX 6-4 & Bentonville 10-3.
Not sure of the scores but I think Star City beat Crossett, LR Jr Deputy beat Allen, TX and Star City. Jonesboro beat Maumelle...

I heard that Star City and Hot Springs went 7 innings.
We had a great time in Crossett. VERY well organized tournament and everyone was extremely hospitable.
You have a great park and should be very proud. I hope we get to return the favor if we get to host some events when our new park in Bryant opens in 2009.
My only regret is most of us had to stay in Monticello/Bastrop/Monroe. The drive made it difficult to see many other games or do much of anything in Crossett.
Maybe we'll get to make reservations earlier next time.
Thanks again!

I've been to 5 regional tournaments in the last 6 years and by far the best were here in Crossett for last years 10yr old and 2 years ago in Springdale for the 10 year old. Larry and his guys have done a tremendous job with our fields since the complex opened.Below is a picture of field 3 during our first season at the complex.

The championship game between Hot Springs and Bryant went into the 7th inning. After 6 innings, the score was tied 10 to 10. Bryant added 3 more runs in the 7th to make it 13 to 10. Bryant - 1st Hot Springs - 2nd Oak Grove, MS - Sportsmanship Award As a note - the last four teams standing were all from Arkansas. Little Rock Jr. Dep, Star City, Hot Springs, and Bryant. If you want to look at the overall pool play info and then the single elimination bracket....go to gocrossett.com. It should be updated later today with the final scores. From all I could tell, the 9 year old kids had a great time and there were a lot positive responses from the adults and coaches with regard to the tournament. To make that happen.....there were WELL OVER A HUNDRED Staff and Volunteers involved. It took a lot of people to pull this off..... as well as a lot of sponsors and businesses who donated monies and product/services to support this effort. Thanks again to all those who participated in making this tournament happen. PoppaEagle
