Anyone here play sports from 1973-1977? I played basically everything there was in Crossett during that period of time and wondered if there was anyone here who was active in sports during that period of time. I loved the story on Bob Williams...he was a hero of mine when I played sports in junior high there and knew him briefly during that time before he moved up to ASU. Great guy! Thanks!

My brother lettered in football, basketball and track in 1973. I graduated in 1974 but they didnt offer much in female athletics then. I graduated with Bob Williams...

Mr. Muddy, For what its worth- PoppaEagle played football 71, 72, 73 ; pole vaulted just enough to help get a few points for the team every now and then - (rule of thumb...where I finished is where Mark Pope would begin), and played Am. Legion baseball (didn't have High School Baseball in Crossett back then). Also, if "chasing the Crossett Light was considered a sport", I participated in that quite a bit. I didn't play basketball in high school....but there were two years where I didn't miss one single game....in town or out. Fill up the old 66 Mustang with gas (28 cents/gallon), load it down with friends and head to Dumas, Dermont, McGehee, Monticello, Camden, Warren, Magnolia.... to cheer for the Eagles....eight track blaring Guess Who, Rare Earth, Al Greene and Chicago. Good Teams, Good Times, Good Friends, Good Fun.

There's a picture of my brother doing the fosberry flop that appeared in the Termite for THREE years in a row - 2 of them after he graduated. poppaeagle, are you and mark pope the same age?

I played football from 73-77, played basketball from 73-75 then Coach Richardson introduced us to indoor track...that was fun, and track from 73-77...I think I ran or tried just about everything at least once...I was asked about the decathlon but passed on it to play baseball...I think I played from pee wee to Babe Ruth, of course, that was before high school baseball, probably every summer I lived there. I knew Pope...he was a year older than I. I did pole vault 14'...I had to run so many races and we only had 5 or 6 vaulters so I gave it up to concentrate on running events. The good ole' days...lol.

Well, I guess I missed it...sorry! I work at the local hospital here and I'm constantly on call so I don't get away much. I've also got a son playing football at Ruston High School so I don't miss any of his games. Maybe the 40 year reunion...lol.
