We took delivery last week from Byron Jones & his crew at Ram-Fab their prefabbed donation of the steel to support the "building" that will be the home of the Batting Cages at the complex. Work began Friday morning & continued thru Saturday afternoon. It will take a few weekends of volunteers to finish this project. Even with the trusses & all being prefabbed it is still a long slow process drilling the concrete, erecting the steel, bolting it together and welding the purling's in place. Then we will need to begin cutting up & placing (& painting) the tin donated by Bemis on the roof. Welders, cherry-picker operator's, Hilti Drill operators, metal cutters, painters & gophers will be in MUCH demand. When finished Crossett will have something that will outlast most of the great-grand kids of the people reading on this message board. If U run to Mr. Jones or any of his family please give them a HUGE THANK YOU! Our simple BC project has grown beyond expectations & dreams when Kiwanis started this last season. Now with a final push these can be finished & usable for our baseball & softball patrons very soon! Many THANKS to all involved from Kiwanis, Ed Wooten Concrete, Bemis, Ram-Fab AND COUNTLESS others for their tremendous contributions to this project. Contact myself or BJ Pippen if you would like to volunteer some time to help, or just show up for the next few Saturdays, I'm sure U can be of help! Thanks LC

U know someplace a fellow could get a BARGAIN on some good steaks? If U do we might just make this idea into a reality. I'd really love to have a FORMAL ribbon cutting to open the "CAGES" B4 our preseason tourneys begin. Invite the volunteers, with representatives from Kiwanis, Bemis, Ram-Fab, Eddie Wooten, Crossett Babe Ruth Baseball, Crossett Softball, Parks & Rec., Crossett Waste Water Department & anyone I'm forgetting right now. I bet we could make this steak supper idea work, have to be a real good deal on some cow-meat!?! !?

We won't be working this Saturday at all. But, starting Tuesday and most days & afternoons someone will be cutting, cleaning & possible painting the tin and somewhere along the way we will begin putting said tin on the roof. There will be a crew out on Saturday the 26th.

While I have to be gone to the State Babe Ruth Meeting Saturday, some are planning to work Saturday afternoon on the Cages. JOhnny will be out B4 lunch to finish up any welding issues. Then when some of the folks get thru with their portion of Upwards BB, they will start cutting up the tin and putting the top on! The cages are on site so as soon as the roof is on we can begin hanging the nets. The Turf for the plate areas also came in yesterday with the protective screens. Thanks
