Ok what are everyone's thoughts on this? Good hire ? Great hire? I recall someone saying Arkansas would have to settle for a coordinater on here in recent weeks. What do ya'll think now?

Press conference at 10:30 TONIGHT on Fox, just so everyone knows. And IMO, this would be an amazing hire for us at this time- Any coach with NFL-head coaching experience is going to attract a ton of top recruits probably, and that's what we need right now. Also, a lot of people relate Petrino as an older, more experienced Malzahn, and that's who a lot of people wanted. A great offensive mind will do wonders here, IF he hires a really good defensive coordinator...*cough* MUSCHAMP *cough cough* (probably wont happen, I know) On the subject of the staff, I also heard that the UA said they'd pay whatever was needed to assemble the best staff we could possibly get..hope thats true.

Yep, and Petrino looked pretty happy to be there IMO...he was smiling the entire time. One thing that frustrated me was that they showed the crowd calling the hogs, and not him, so I couldn't see how 'into it' he was...oh well. He sounds like he's really ready to get back to the recruiting game, and it makes me really excited to know that we have someone who really enjoys recruiting. I can't wait to see what he can get done

Petrino to Arkansas = Stand UP Triple with the bases juiced, not quite a Grand Slam but real close, so close the base coach at 3rd. got booed for not sending him!

I dunno, it could potentially be a grand slam- I think the bases are being run right now, and we'll have wait and to see if it's a grand slam or not The only downside is that Sean Salisbury and Warrick Dunn have both told recruits not to come to Arkansas, on national television of course...I emailed ESPN about it because I think it borderlines slander (due to the fact that it will most likely cause at least one recruit to avoid Arkansas, thus affecting Petrino's job), and asked for a public apology. I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not holding my breath. ESPN will have plenty of filler time over the next few days with the Mitchell report coming out. Petrino will be old news. With Pettite and Clemons names showing up in the report Petrino will be an after thought. ESPN has done everything possible to make Arkansas look bad for 2 years now. I don't think it is going to effect recruiting much at all. Current recruits are excited about him. Falcon players are just using this to vent their frustrations on how the season turned. What they should be doing is calling out Vick for getting involved in something illegal. He let the team down as much as Petrino!!! I think more than anything else ESPN is PO'd that Arkansas went out and the BIG name coach they siad they would never get. The Hogs didn't settle for a coordinater. They hit the homerun when they were expecting a single or double at best. They got showed up and can't take it!!!

How many of you know who Falcons owner Arther Blanks is? He is the founder and CEO of Home Depot who happans to sponsor ESPN's Gameday. Heard this on the radio along with the theory that ESPN has come down so hard on Petrino because of that sponsorship. Something to think about after all the manipulated the Heisman vote.
