I'll try to run the entire AAAA list in next week's News Observer, but for now...Crossett has three All-State players. They are linemen Khris Howell and Max Hendrix, and quarterback Matt Campbell, all seniors.
No word on All-Conference.
Some kid named Johnny Waldrop made it for Prairie Grove at the AAA level. Considering the lack of athletic talent in my family, I seriously doubt that he's even a distant relative.

Besides, I don't ever recall a Jr. making All State. It's an honor usually reserved for Srs. in Arkansas. The 3 that were named are more than deserving. They were a key part of the Eagles for 3 years.

Okay. Maybe your right but what about our senior receiver Jarrod Martin Jarrod is certainly deserving. He had an outstanding season. I wish he had gotten the ball more. FYI the players are nominated by the head coach then all the conference coaches vote. What players were nominated from Crossett? Don't have a clue. Juniors are eligible but it seems in the SE conference they rarely are chosen.

FYI the players are nominated by the head coach then all the conference coaches vote. What players were nominated from Crossett? Don't have a clue. That's true, but only in the most legalistic sense. In reality the head coach chooses who makes All-State on his own team. Each team has a locked-in number of All-State players based upon where it finishes in conference play. The team that finishes first in the AAAA conferences automatically gets six selections, and then it goes on down from there. (Class AAA and AA are done a little bit differently and it is more difficult to get All-State at those levels.) They call it a "nomination" process but that really is an inflated version of what goes on. Because Crossett finished third in the conference, Crossett got three All-State selections. Coach Ingram himself likely selected the three whom he felt were most deserving. From how it has been described to me, there isn't really any voting that goes on for All-State. The conference's other coaches have no real say in the matter. Conceivably a coach could pass off any number of his own All-State slots to another coach but I don't know that that ever would happen. Now for Outstanding Players in each conference, there is a vote. Normally all of the All-State selections are grouped together by linemen and backs and each are numbered by the coaches in order of rank. Usually these Outstanding Players also are named All-Stars and compete in the AHSCA Game in the summer. I don't know who was selected as Outstanding Back or Outstanding Lineman in the Southeast. It was a pretty weak year for backs but I'd guess Remley from Monticello got it. Lineman...I have no idea.

I also think that Bryant should have made it. He was by far the best Class AAAA receiver in Arkansas and possibly the best receiver across all classifications with the notable exception of Damian Williams. I think that this is a case where Crossett finished third and therefore got short-changed on All-State selections. Underclassmen are selected for All-State, but not nearly as much as they should be. If juniors are the best players that you have then juniors should be named All-State, period. I think that All-Star should be reserved for seniors, but All-State should be a reflection of the best players in the state regardless of age. BTW, at least one Hamburg Lion junior, Peyton Gwin, was named All-Conference.

you also have to display good sportsmanship and the Bryant kid lacked BIG Time in that category along with playing as a team player
