If ever there was a more popular Dean of Students in Crossett, I don't know who it would be.
Don Allen Burnett, 68, of Crossett died on August 8, 2008 at Ashley County Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 25, 1939 in Crossett, AR to Floyd H. and Rosemary Ruff Burnett.
He began a teaching and coaching career in Chillicothe, Missouri where he lived from 1963-1967. His remaining years in education were spent in Crossett where he taught Science, Coached, and was a Dean of Students. During the summer months he worked for the City Recreation and managed the Crossett Swimming Pool. Teaching was of great importance to him. Each student was unique and he loved each and every one of them. His goal was to instill in them respect for themselves, respect for others, and a respect for life. He was a member of First Baptist Church and at one time taught Sunday School.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd H. and Rosemary Burnett; maternal grandparents Wesley and Orean Ruff; paternal grandparents Victor and Emma Burnett; and a special nephew Larry Drake Crossland.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy C. Burnett of Crossett; a son Brad Allen Burnett and wife, Elizabeth of Lords Valley, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Kelly Lynn Spradlin and husband, Jeff of Crossett; a sister, Marilyn Myers of Crossett and a brother, John W. Burnett and wife, Sharon of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by one niece, two nephews, two great-nieces, and three great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Crossett with Brother Jeff Smart officiating. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. (www.jonesservice.com)
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 5-8p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or the CHS Class of 1957 to be used to begin a Don Allen Burnett Memorial Scholarship Fund. (Memorials may be mailed to 1400 Cypress Street, Crossett, AR 71635)
