Not quite the debut we all wanted last night but it wasn't a total wash either. Magnolia brought an excellant passing game and a very talented QB. I think he gave us fits last year. Thank goodness he is a senior. I know the coaches know more about what they need to work on this week than I do but as a an armchair QB heres my 2 cents. O-line did not give Johnson the protection he needed most of the night. Hard to make good throws when you are fighting for your life. Our running game showed signs of brillance at times. Cason and Phillips are going to be dangerous all year. Defensively we have to do a much better job against the pass and contain the running game better. We did do better in the second half, I thought. Rule of thumb is you show the most improvement from week one to week 2. That being said ,look out Lions!!! My players of the game, Sophmore Jeffrey Barnett at NT and RB Anthony Phillips 7 carries for 137 yards.

My take on the game last night:
The Good: - Running game. Philips lit them up all night, as did the others. - Run defense. Seemed like most runs up the middle were shut down for little to no gain. - Players seemed to have more intensity to me than in years past
The Bad: - Passing on offense. Our QB put the ball into the ground on most throws and only went over 10 yards or so once on the entire night. He seemed indecisive, though he was being pummeled all night. - Defensive backs. Got burned often and their QB found holes in our coverage alllllll night, pretty much on-demand. The one glimmer of hope, Lincoln's interception that almost turned the game around IMO.
Magnolia's lines were bigger than ours, and it definitely showed. I don't think our lines are bad, theirs were just better last night.

I was really disappointed in O-line they didn't give our QB or RB any help what so ever. It was like they would turn around and watch three guys all over our QB every play. If it wasn't for our RB speed for them to get around the end and turn the corner they wouldn't have had their success. At some points they did block but no one can blame our QB for having happy feet after being hit EVERY play from every which direction. Ours run game showed alot of promise but we looked to turn to it ALOT and teams will be preparing for it if we can't get the passing game going. They picked on our DBs all night with deep and slant routes. But as the game progressed they went to some what of a run game with the QB that looked really promising to for them but showed another weakness of ours which is that our LBs bit on the pass way to easy. We have a long way to go but we will be okay just have to give time for the offense get settled in and let our VERY young team get some confidence.

Observation - Magnolia's QB had plenty of time to throw the ball.....Crossett's QB did not. I saw improvement in certain areas as the night went on. Re: Outlaw's post...the QB for Magnolia was Quentin Sanders and this is his first year to start as QB. In fact, he was hurt last year. His folks said even if he wouldn't have been hurt last year... he wouldn't have had much PT due to "politics". He sure brought his game last week. Good kid and good athlete. Pierce, Tyler, Chase M. and Josh C. played baseball with Quentin and several of the Magnolia players. It was good to see them knock the crap out of each other.....then help each other up. I see potential. Looking forward to this Friday night.

i will tell you how they keep coming up these QB they have taught them how to read coverage and make good decisions. As where in the past CHS QB knew where the pass was going no matter of coverage. You cant have a succeful passing attack whenever the QB gets the ball and already knows where he is supposed to throw the ball to. I think that we will get this problem solved now with a new staff but I also belive Derek can already read coverage and make good decisions now the CHS OL has to give him a chance of doing it.

ctown I expect the line to be better this week. Several were out of position last week because Kenny Bannon was out. He's back this week and should help the line be more comfortable doing their job. Derek did a good job Friday when he had time but the key is the line. Just ask Bubba Turner, he took a beating last Sat in in debut at UAPB. No protection at all.

I really believe that the biggest factor in derek being our QB this week is that he feels he has something to prove and we all know and a man with something to prove can be really dangerous.

i would like to say that i believe one man would make a huge diffrence on the line but i was there last week like i will be there this week and it wasnt just one guy coming through the line they were coming from every direction.
