The numbers for the next class cycle will be officially released Monday, May 4th. I've already been told by someone who has access to an early release that Crossett remains the 64th school in size. That will mean that they will remain in the 5A unless a private school is bumped up. Pulaski Academy WILL NOT be in the 5A, but may petition to remain in the 5A. If they do, Crossett would drop down. Little Rock Christian will also drop back down. The only other school I am unsure of is Central Ark. Christian. If their enrollment numbers classify them as a 4A school, they will be bumped up to 5A. The short of it is that unless a school petitions to move up, we will remain in the 5A. Honestly, I was hoping for the drop. There is currently a matter coming before the Ark Activities Assoc. that would force all private schools to have their own playoff. The AAA is working with the private schools to head off this attempt. One of the scenarios that could end this movement would be to have certain private schools play up as far as the 6A. If that happens, we will be dropped down to 4A. For those that don't know, the 16 largest schools make up the 7A, the next 16 largest make up the 6A, the next 32 make up the 5A, and the next 48 make up the 4A. Crossett is sitting at the #64 spot right on the border between the 5A and the 4A. Anyone from the 4A that leaps up will cause the drop down.

I've actually been hoping we would drop down for a while, too. Being one of the biggest teams in 4A ball is much better than being one of, if not THE smallest school in 5A. We would be able to compete even better than we do now, which in the end equates most likely to more money coming in from playoffs and such.

Not necessarily. PA is in talks with the AAA about playing up in class. If they petition and are successful, we will be in the 4A. It is possible that PA and Shiloh Christian both may end up in either the 6A or 5A in an agreement to head off the private school playoff proposal. I really doubt Crossett remains in the 5A.

Is there any reason the AAA would NOT want PA to move up a classification? I mean, I don't really see that hurting anyone at all. Seems like a win for everyone to me.

It makes all the sense in the world. The fuel savings alone for the 5A SE without Crossett would be huge. Crossett's fuel bill would drop substantially as well.

Honestly, I hate to see us drop down. Competively we need to. It's hard to compete with schools that 70-90 kids on the sideline and we have 50 or less. It saddens me to see us go from one of the largest schools in our classification to the smallest.

I know what you mean, but who knows, maybe with some solid success we'll start bringing in a few more students. More students = more money, more money = improvements to the school (HOPEFULLY), improvements to a growing school = more growth. Turns into a circulating deal. Things like that tend to go in waves also, a school will be up for a while, down for a while, up, down...that's why I don't think it would be that bad, especially in the long run.

i for one would love to see us drop down. The conf. we would be dropping down to in WAY more competitive. I mean Warren and Doll. are two very tough schools to have to play against and have went deep in the 4A playoff year after year. We also don't have to keep watching our guy take up a portion of the sidelines while the other teams takes the whole sideline up. What i really was hoping for but haven't seen yet is maybe since IP in bastrop finally shutting down maybe a few of the workers from there getting jobs at GP and someone of those players moving to Crossett to play.
