I've been drumming this idea around for a couple of weeks. I believe someone posted something along these lines recently. School spirit has been a sore spot for many this season. I'm not going to get into that at this time but my idea pertains to this.
In college students receive discounts and sometimes free entry to sporting events. Usually all you have to do is show your ID. So to bolster support next season among our students why don't we allow them a discount price or possibly free entrance to games? They must show their ID at the gate and have one gate designated as the student gate. I'm not talking K-12 here, only those students with valid and current CHS ID's, grades 10-12. Another twist to this, create a student section on the south end of the field next to the band. Now back in my day we gave out the spirit stick to grade with the most spirit. Make a big deal out of this and at half time name the weeks spirit winner, soph, junior, or senior.
I know we have teachers, coaches, administrators and board members that view this site. I've given you the idea now let's see what we can do about it.

most kids these days dont care. I keep reading and hearing people say this about Crossett kids and I'm telling you folks it isn't true. The reason I know that kids today do care is because I have had enough interaction with students from other schools who do care. I will say that apathy is higher here at the moment, but that does not mean that it has to remain high. The older generations seem like they are giving up on this generation. "They're like they are and there's no way to change them," seems to be the attitude among many people. That's why I say that these things that Outlaw is talking about are better caught than taught. What he is suggesting is to create an atmosphere where spirit and pride can be caught. Folks in Crossett seem to have tunnel vision. It's not like it is here everywhere. They have the same problems we do and yet there is a difference. I have a news flash for some. Ashley County isn't the only place in the state that has parents who don't support their kids or parents who don't have time to support their kids. The numbers here are lower than most think. The days of excuses are over. It's time to do something.

Eddie......I like that "The days of excuses are over. It's time to do something. " I had to write a novel earlier to say the same thing. Well put.

I love the idea of a student section. Making it right beside the band would be double good. Question is... how do we git r done?

most kids these days dont care. I think alot of the kids not caring falls back on some of what the kids hear parents say about things, whether it is about a person (coach, administrator, or just your neighbor) or just a topic of negative conservation. These negative thoughts are just not here in Ashley County, but are pretty much anywhere you go. Just read on Fearless Friday and you will find out we actually have it better than some.

What can we do as parents, faculty, students and fans to make this last game of the season special for these guys? I know it's awful short notice, but we should be able to come up with some idea to let this team know that we support them. We all know that we only have a handful of seniors, but those seniors will never have another chance to play for a Crossett Eagle Football Team. I am all for "Senior Night", and I know they'll be recognized. But can anyone come up with an idea to make this 2006 season memorable for this team? I'm game.

I'd definitely support a student section, even though I'm not a student anymore. How much do the games cost this year, $3 or $5? I always forget. If it's $3, I wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar to help negate the loss of funds from the students getting in for free.
And here's an idea of a reward system for the spirit stick idea. Like you said, announce a weekly winner (sophomore, junior, senior) at halftime Friday night, based on people wearing school colors, face paint, window chalk on their cars, etc. etc., and keep up with how many weeks each grade wins. At the end of the year, whichever grade won the most weeks, give them a day off, take them somewhere, I dunno...do something good to reward them for having school spirit. How does that sound, too difficult or what?

Just as I said before, if this is something that the students want then the STUDENTS are the ones who are going to have to get together and do something about it.

Just as I said before, if this is something that the students want then the STUDENTS are the ones who are going to have to get together and do something about it. The problem is that you can't plant a crop on unprepared ground and expect anything to grow. That's where we come in. We've got to give them a proper environment that will encourage growth. They've also got to see it in us.

There are a few CHS students on this site, but it doesn't look like very many (if any) students have posted in this thread. Maybe some of you students need to speak up to the school officials about a student section or something like that. There's really no reason not to, the worst thing that could happen is if nobody sat in it...and I don't see that happening. Also, I know there's a CHS teacher or two on here. You teachers could also work on it.
As for putting a student section next to the band stand, we could do that...or we could put it on the other end so that there's noise coming from both sides of the stands ;D

haha, good point. Just don't give them places to walk around. We probably wouldn't have to add bleachers for a student section, would we? I know the bleachers can get pretty full, and there are a lot of students walking around, but it looks good to have the stands packed with people too lol. Or we could pull up all that nice new concrete and put sprinklers out there so it stays really muddy all the time

I think a student section is a good idea. What kind of school does not have one? I think if there was a place just for students to sit then the students would sit there. The main reason students all huddle up in one area out of the bleachers is because they all want to get together. The student section would have to be only for students of course, that is the basis of the appeal of a student section. At college games especially, the student section is the place to be. That's were all the fun is.

I also think a student section is a good idea. There is, however, one major problem. I do not think the students on a whole care about the game in the least. I feel they are quite happy standing around in everybodies way, so you cannot get to the concession stand or the restrooms without going through a gaunlet to get there. Just another failure of the Crossett administration, because it was my understanding that the students were told they WOULD be required to be seated. That did not last long.

Well Joy, it looks like you have a job to do if you want a student section ;D. And even if they sit there and talk during the game instead of SUPPORTING THE TEAM, hey...at least they won't be in everyone's way going to the concession stand lol.
But seriously, it would be really great if you could get that little project going, Joy, lol.

It is a little late for football season, but there is always next year. I will not be here, maybe someone else can lead the troops aye. There is always basketball season. I suppose I could see what I can do to support this little idea.
