Hey guys, I noticed that in today's paper, Otis Kirk wrote an article about the 2008 recruiting class, and they named Rodney Brown as a Razorback prospect. What do you guys think the chances are of him becoming a Razorback? It would be great to see another former Eagle become a Razorback. Any clues as to what position he may play?

I saw where rivals had him listed as one of the top 60 ATHLETES in the state...he wasn't mentioned at a particular position. I may be wrong about this but; hasn't there been a question about his work ethic in the past?...attitude?...If I am wrong please correct me.

jwh, I haven't personally heard anything about his work ethic, maybe someone who played/plays ball with him could comment on that.
And to hogdog...I wonder how many Rod Brown's there are in Ashley County? I think there are another one or two of them in Hamburg (at least one, because he goes to school at Hamburg High school, and I believe also plays basketball and maybe football).

I guess I missed this story. It surprises me that he has shown up on anybody's radar screen. I said way back (when he was in eighth grade) that he probably was Crossett's next D-I football player. But I think he's going to have to be one who plays his way into an offer, like Brannon Kidd did.
If that happens, let's hope his situation ends up better than Brannon's ended up.
There are at least three different kids named Rodney Brown (not counting the Brookshire's manager, who clearly isn't a kid) in Ashley County:
Rodney Brown, the one we're talking about, usually is called Rod Brown. He is a junior this year. Rodney Brown from Hamburg also is a junior, but plays only basketball and not football. He's a major part of the Lion basketball team. Then there's a Rodney Brown from Crossett who is a sophomore this year (or at least should be one if he's still in school). He was quite a promising junior-high running back but got out of athletics for a reason or three.

Otis Kirk has Rod in his EARLY top 25 rankings listed him as an athelete but says he sees him as a lb in college and is possibly the best in state at that position.

Top linebacker in the state, huh? Didn't he play DE last season for Crossett, at least some? I'm not really sure, I don't keep up with any one player really...I'd like to find him on rivals.com or read Otis Kirk's early top 25 position rankings, where might that be? I did a 2008 prospect search on him on rivals.com and didn't come up with anything.

Correction: I just did the prospect search again, and searched for class of 2008 athletes. Rod Brown happens to be the very first name on that list. I clicked on the "list" button (lists college options), and there wasn't much of a list. Just Arkansas. But that's a good thing I guess, as long as that works out in the end.

He has the physical gifting. The rest depends on him. He'll be at the Razorback camp I'm sure. I'd like to see Tracy Rocker get a hold of him and put some muscle on him and turn him into a prostyle pass rush defensive end.

He does play DE at Crossett, right?

He does play DE at Crossett, right? Nope. Coach Ingram tinkered with the idea of moving him there in the off-season, but by the time the second week of fall practices, he was back at linebacker.

#29 in the rivals.com Arkansas Elite 30. www.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=682739 you guys think he still has a shot to play at Arkansas, if he has a good season this year? Also, he isn't ranked by Rivals- does that mean they haven't seen him play yet, or...?

I wouldn't expect to see him on Rivals because Rivals ranks only the top 100 players nationally. He won't approach that group.
Arkansas could go after him based solely on athletic ability. He definitely has that going for him. But if he goes Division I he'll redshirt in his freshman year, regardless of the school. He's a project type. If they want him as a linebacker or tight end he'll have to bulk up first; if they want him in the secondary (doubtful) he's never played there before so there will be a steep learning curve. He doesn't really have the skills of a wide receiver (although he seems like he'd have them). I don't think that he wants to play receiver.
But you look at a guy that big and that fast, and knowing the kind of athletes that Arkansas likes to have on defense under Nutt, it wouldn't surprise me if a late offer is extended.

STAY OFF HOGVILLE !! Just kidding Check your messages. You said 'just kidding', but I'll tell you this- I try hard to make sure I don't ever post on hogville, because most people there are incredibly rude if they don't see something in the same way s you do, but this was something that made me glad I read on hogville a lot. I just try to avoid the hate threads, which is extremely difficult.

But since it as gone anti everything and gotten out of control. Trey Biddy and Otis Kirk do a much better job on the rivals site. By the way if you listen to Sports Rap on the radio it is now run by hogville people.

I listen to drivetime sports. Also, the head admin (whatever his title is) shows heavy favoritism to people with opinions like his own. If you insult Nutt, and of the current coaching staff, or Casey Dick, you are his best friend. If you insult one of the Springdalers that left the team, you are at risk of being permanently banned from the website from what I hear. I'm not saying some people don't deserve to be talked about, but it should be treated the same way, no matter who is cut down... I'm glad the admins here have good sense
