Around an hour of conditioning work with four stations. Players were divided into groups: Linemen, backs, receivers. Looked to be around 40 players out, including a few who have been kicked off in the past. I saw only one player throw up, but I was there for only about 15 minutes.

How many kids are out this year for Sr. High? I'm hearing around 40 on the Jr. High team but that includes 8th and 9th graders.

I was surprised to see that numbers are up considerably for the high-school team. I counted around 50 at practice today. That's certainly not a big number but that's up between five and 10 over the last few years.

Yeah, we've been in the low 40's the past few years I believe. And if I remember correctly, we only had something like 1 or 2 more than Hamburg on the team last year (granted, Hamburg had an unusually large senior class).

Assuming that the numbers hold solid that's not going to be unusual for Hamburg anymore. I'd expect HHS to have larger graduating classes every year at least over the next decade.

Do you mean you think Hamburg's will be larger than they have been, or larger than ours?

The 8th grade has 32 kids out this year and the 9th has roughly the same.

Do you mean you think Hamburg's will be larger than they have been, or larger than ours? Both. Would that mean that it is a possibility for us to be in the same division at some point in the near future? Or does Crossett have higher enrollment, and just not as many FB players?

Unless something changes, Crossett has only three seasons left in the 5A. 2010 Crossett will drop down to 4A. They are the smallest non-private school in the class now. When Rogers high school splits, Crossett will drop down. Hamburg's enrollment won't be enough to push them up. They will be in the same class and same conference with Crossett once again.

I don't particularly like the idea of dropping down all that much, but I think we will be more competitive and I look forward to Hamburg as a conference game

Just think about how much better that will work from a travel and geographic standpoint. Of course by 2010 all sorts of things could change.
C, I was speaking about enrollment, not football participation specifically. Hamburg's junior-high classes already are substantially bigger than Crossett's I believe. I know that the upcoming ninth-grade class over there has somewhere around 175 students. Granted you always have some fall-off from junior-high to high school, but even with moderate retention, that's going to be a record-setting class. Especially if the millage proposal passes in Hamburg this fall.

Hamburg doesn't seem to be growing as a town really, so are all these new students coming from all those little towns that go to HHS? I'm kinda getting us off-topic here too, sorry lol

Got my first look at the 8th and 9th grade Eagles today. Alot of good sized kids coming up. I think my boy said 50 8th and 9th graders out this year with 32 of those being 8th graders. Very energetic and hard working bunch from what I saw today. Coaches seem to be real enthusiastic about these guys. Of course we will know more about these kids when they get the pads on next week. I'm starting to get the fever. What about everyone else?
